Northeast of Morristown (population: 187), and in rural Arizona is one unique destination — Castle Hot Springs. This area is home to our state's very first wellness resort, and it's just as popular today as it was when it first opened in 1896. Celebrities, dignitaries, and other notable figures once flocked to the resort to experience the alleged healing properties of its mineral waters. See for yourself:
Arizona's first luxury resort, Castle Hot Springs first opened in 1896.
Even before that, indigenous peoples journeyed to the area on horseback to take advantage of the medicinal qualities of the spring water.
Celebrities and other notable figures flocked to Castle Hot Springs to experience the healing waters for themselves.
Some big names include the Rockefeller family and President Theodore Roosevelt.
In the 1940s, the resort was used as a military rehabilitation center for WWII veterans, including future president John F. Kennedy.
The property has endured much adversity since that time - two fires and multiple ownership changes being the main obstacles - yet it still stands as one of Arizona's premier wellness destinations.
The property is centered around three natural pools that are fed by the fabled hot spring.
Emanating straight from the mystical Bradshaw Mountains, the spring is rich with minerals that allegedly help to soothe aches and pains.
Ranging in temperature from 86 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit, each spring offers a unique soaking experience.
There is also a large main pool that is heated by the warm waters of the hot spring pools.
While immersing yourself in the rejuvenating spring waters is sure to be the highlight of your stay, the resort offers a plethora of other activities such as rock climbing, guided hikes, yoga, and more.
The on-site restaurant, Harvest, serves breakfast, lunch, and a five-course dinner using farm-to-table ingredients and chef-crafted recipes.
Guests can also enjoy laid-back fare and craft cocktails at Bar 1896.
When you aren't soaking all your troubles away or embarking on unforgettable adventures, enjoy some much-deserved R&R in your room.
Guests have several different accommodations to choose from, including bungalows, cabins, and cottages.
Amenities and square footage vary based on which lodging option you choose - the bungalows, for example, even have private, spring-fed outdoor tubs - but the common denominator is an environment in which you can fully relax and recharge.
Please visit the Castle Hot Springs website or Facebook page for more information about booking a stay, including current room rates and availability.
