Is it just me or is just about every town in Arizona surrounded by natural beauty? Even in the driest, least populated areas, you can still find bright blue skies, incredible rock formations, and other bits of wonder. However, if we had to choose one tiny town that is surrounded by a stunning Mother Nature, we would have to choose Greer.
Located about one hour east of Show Low, Greer is a tiny town of just 40-something people in Arizona’s White Mountains.
It sits right in the middle of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest and is a nice, secluded little spot that many Arizonans love to visit year-round for relaxation and recreation.
The town was founded in 1879 as Lee Valley by Mormon settlers but the name was later changed after a request was made by the post office.
There’s some surprisingly gorgeous forest in this area with rich green hues, creeks, rivers, streams, and lakes that make this town paradise.
When visiting, you won't find a shortage of things to do!
There's plenty of hiking trails both around and just outside of town to introduce you to the gorgeous natural beauty.
Find a few recommended trails at hikearizona.com. The link will take you to a list of trails for all skill levels.
You might even get a chance to see some wildlife as well!
Horse stables allow for different kind of exploration opportunity for riders of all levels.
And just outside of Greer is Sunrise Ski Resort, where you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding during the winter months or a ride on the lift when the temperatures go up.
Camping in the area is awesome but if you prefer electricity and running water, then a stay at one of the many cabins and lodges in the area is perfect.
To check out some of the camping sites, visit the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest website.
The views from the cabins are incredible during summer or winter!
If you want a quieter stay, avoid visiting in summer when this town is packed.
Can you imagine falling asleep to the sounds of a creek nearby? I can't think of a better way to relax during a weekend!
