Looking for ideas to plan an upcoming weekend escape? If a drive deep into the mountains sounds like your idea of fun, then you'll want to check out this location in Crown King, just 85 miles north of Phoenix.
Self-proclaimed as the oldest continuously operating saloon in Arizona, the Crown King Saloon has been serving this small town since 1906.
Once located in the nearby Oro Belle, the saloon was disassembled and reconstructed in its current place. It operated in the same manner as your typical Western saloon: a bar in the main area and a bordello upstairs.
These days, you'll still find the bar serving drinks but it also acts as a cafe for those looking for a bite to eat and even offers overnight, G-rated lodging.
Located in the Bradshaw Mountains, the saloon is hidden away in this wilderness, making it a remote location that is perfect for anyone looking to escape the city for a few hours.
The drive there is done over dirt roads, most switchbacks, that wind up the mountain.
Most people recommend driving a vehicle with four-wheel drive since the roads can be rough and muddy.
Once you arrive, it's time to admire the rural surroundings and walk through those wooden doors.
Inside, you'll find the saloon has the atmosphere of a small town bar, with wooden floors and tools, signs, and taxidermied animal heads adorning the walls.
And some days you'll find live music bursting through the walls, making this place even more lively!
It's not just a range of drinks you'll find here, either. The saloon serves scrumptious meals as well!
On the menu, you'll find breakfast, kids meals, salads, desserts, and more.
Feel like you want to stay the night when you're here? The former bordello upstairs has been transformed into overnight lodging.
Six small rooms sit upstairs and offer cozy accommodations.
Crown King Saloon is located at 7219 Main Street in Crown King. Details about the saloon’s hours and menu can be found on their website or Facebook page. To make lodging reservations, call the saloon at (928) 632-7053.
