Arizona is one of the most stunning states in the country, but the dangers here are numerous. Its scenic wonders are spectacular; however, they are also some of the most dangerous to visit in the U.S. The state is home to an incredible variety of wildlife; however, some of these animals and insects are lethal. And while the state has some absolutely beautiful and safe places to live, Arizona has some towns and cities that are extremely dangerous to live or visit. We're talking about crime rates, theft, and other unfortunate happenings -- and you may be surprised by some of the places that show up in the following list of the 10 most dangerous towns in Arizona.

1. Coolidge (pop. 11,820)

Oddly enough, Coolidge’s neighbor, Florence, is repeatedly listed as one of the safest cities in Arizona. However, Coolidge has some of the highest crime rates in the state, with recent data revealing that the chance of being a victim of violent crime in Coolidge is 1 in 188, and property crime is 1 in 33.

2. Glendale (pop. 234,006)

In Glendale, the violent crime is 27.3, higher than the U.S. average of 22.7. Property crimes here are quite common, with the city's property crime rate checking in at a lofty 72.5. (For comparison, the U.S. average is 35.4.)

3. Show Low (pop. 10,732)

While Show Low reports lower-than-average instances of violent crime, property crimes here are well above the national average. Show Low property crime comes in at 63.4, nearly double the average for the U.S.

4. Page (pop. 7,330)

While many of Arizona's cities are experiencing a decrease in crime rates, Page is moving in the wrong direction. The crime rate for Page in 2018 was 1042.77 per 100,000 population, a 24.35% increase from 2017.

5. Tucson (pop. 525,486)

One of the most populated cities in Arizona, Tucson's crime rates are falling -- but still above average. Recent data reveals that property crime comes in at 83.2 -- more than double the national rate.

6. Willcox (pop. 3,678)

One of the safest "dangerous" places on this list, the city of Willcox has both the lowest population and total reported crimes on this list. However, that being said, the crime-to-resident ratio is still pretty high. While your chance of being a victim of violent crime in Willcox is 1 in 505, you have a 1-in-2 chance of experiencing property crime in Willcox.

7. Globe (pop. 7,414)

Globe is another small town in Arizona where property crime is rampant. Globe's property crime rate is 92.4, almost triple the national average.

8. Holbrook (pop. 4,988)

It seems that "Happy Holbrook" may not actually be so happy. While the city is undoubtedly beautiful, property crime in Holbrook is more than double the national average.

9. Tolleson (pop. 6,754)

Tolleson crime rates are 299% higher than the national average, making this place easily one of the most dangerous towns in Arizona.

10. South Tucson (pop. 5,694)

Unfortunately, South Tucson is one of the riskiest places in Arizona, both for property crime, and, unfortunately, violent crime. With rates of violent crimes coming in at four times the national average, South Tucson is a very dangerous place to visit.

For what it's worth, the majority of the crimes committed above reveal that Arizonans might have a problem keeping their hands off items that don't belong to them, resulting in a high rate of property crimes. The most popular crime was larceny-theft, with 129,979 reports statewide, and can include shoplifting, stealing from vending machines, or stealing vehicle parts. It's important to note that these crimes differ tremendously from robbery (which requires physical force) and burglary (which requires unlawfully entering property).
