Valdez is a small town on Prince William Sound in southeastern Alaska.
This amazing town is actually the snowiest in all of the United States, with an average of 300 inches per year. There have been five separate months throughout the years that have each seen 100 inches fall.
The Chugach Mountain Range surrounding Valdez is comprised of steep mountain faces, large bowls of incredible powder, and lots of areas filled with glaciers.
This makes it a highly desirable backcountry heli-ski and snowboard destination. There are beautiful lodges to stay at while you make your way through the snowy mountains.
Every February, there is an incredible ice climbing festival.
This annual event is hosted right off the Richardson Highway in Keystone Canyon. Try your hand at climbing some of the most incredible and accessible ice climbing in the world.
Snow-machining is a hugely popular sport in the area, and the infamous Tailgate Alaska happens annually.
Tailgate Alaska celebrates allows you access into Thompson Pass, which has more rideable terrain than Whistler, Squaw Valley, and Snowbird combined. This is a huge event that combines snowboarding, snow machines, playing in the mountains with concerts, parties, and a great community of those who love the snow. This year the festival runs from March 27th through April 5th.
Dine at any of the great restaurants in Valdez to fuel up for your next winter adventure.
