Experiencing the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center starts before you even get in the door with magical outdoor exhibits like this Buck Walsky "Beach Front" installation from 2016.
Once you enter the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center, a whole world of exciting things to see and do opens before you. The museum does charge a fee for admission to the whole museum and additional fees for special exhibits.
The museum is full of interactive fun activities for all ages and you can literally spend all day having fun learning about the science, art and culture of Alaska.
The Anchorage Museum supports Alaskan artists by displaying their artwork in both permanent and traveling exhibits. Look for the new "Art in Alaska" exhibit opening in September 2017.
The museum is a center of education and culture for the Anchorage community. Annually they hold the Anchorage School District Art Show and bring the community together to celebrate area art students.
Permanent Exhibits include informative exhibits about Alaskan history and Alaska Native Peoples.
Traditional clothing, tools and household objects are on display from the many cultures and peoples that traditionally inhabited the area we now call the U.S. State of Alaska. Modern technology helps teach the public about traditional ways of living.
The current exhibit TERRA is now on view in the Atrium. The new Land Marks series uses technology to expose museum visitors to remote Arctic landscapes.
The Thomas Planetarium in the museum has 3-D graphics, surround sound and a dome screen. A variety of programs are on display, including Saturday morning cartoons about art, history and science from 10:30 and 11:30 AM every Saturday.
Also offered are mood-altering art and 3D graphics flashing to some of Led Zeppelin's greatest hits. Special, cool evening programs are regularly offered at the museum.
When you are fatigued from having so much fun, take a breather at Muse, the cafe in the Museum. They have a lovely outdoor patio for lunch in the sun.
The new summer menu includes this pork bulgogi with sweet chili paste, sauteed onions, scallions and steamed Jasmine rice. The rotating variety of lunch specials are all fresh summer fare with an international twist.
Make sure to exit through the gift shop to see the works of modern Alaskan artists using traditional design techniques and bringing them into the modern era, like these awesome skateboards.
Lunch on the Lawn is one of the fun summer programs offered by the Museum where outdoor activities, food trucks and live music draw people to the Museum on sunny days.
