Believe it or not, Alaska's state capital is a great place to take the family for an awesome vacation. There are so many things to do in Juneau regardless of the time of year you visit. From incredible eats to really fun tours, Juneau is the number one vacation you don't want to miss in Alaska. Check out all of the great things you can do over a week in Alaska's beautiful capital city.
1. Go zip-lining!
During the summer months at Eaglecrest ski resort there is an AWESOME zip lining tour.
Alaska Zipline Adventures is fun and safe for everyone (8 years or older) but also eco-friendly. Take the lines through the magical old-growth of the Tongass National Forest.
2. Ride the ferry.
The ferry is a great way to see the stunning views surrounding Juneau, plus the chances of you seeing whales and other sea life are pretty darn high!
3. Check out Juneau's Icefield.
There are a whole slew of glaciers you can fly over and tour but don't miss the main attraction, Mendenhall Glacier, just outside of town.
4. Go whale watching.
During the months of May through September, Juneau is the number one whale watching spot in Southeast Alaska. This activity is a must do no matter what your age, 8 or 80.
5. Take the Mount Roberts Tramway.
The views from the Goldbelt Tramway are truly spectacular. Take in all the surrounding sights from the comfort of this climbing tramway.
6. Grab a brew at the Alaskan Brewing Co.
If heights aren't your thing then skip the tramway and head on down to the Alaskan Brewing Company for a cold one. Learn more about this incredible Alaskan company while enjoying some of the best beer in the states.
7. Grab some world famous crab legs at Tracy's!
There is nothing as delicious or as well-known in Juneau as Tracy's King Crab Shack. Don't believe me? Go try it for yourself! It's nothing fancy, but the food is unbeatable. It's a must if you take a vacation to Juneau.
8. Hit the water on kayak or boat!
You can see the glaciers of Juneau in a whole new light just by hitting the water. There are many boat tours that take you closer to the toe of these massive glaciers. Or you can adventure out on your own and rent kayaks and go with a guide!
9. Take a trip to Eaglecrest with the whole family.
If it's winter then you can't pass up the opportunity to hit the slopes at Eaglecrest Resort on Douglas Island.
