Here are 12 more towns in Alabama with some of the strangest names you'll ever see:
1. The Bottle
The Bottle is a community in the northern corporate limits of Auburn, Alabama. It was named for the orange Nehi soda bottle that stood in its location during the years 1924-1933.
2. Pine Apple
Originally called Friendship, Pine Apple is a small Alabama town in Wilcox County. It was given its name based on the numerous pine and apple groves that were located nearby.
3. Mignon
Mignon is a small Alabama town that's located in Talladega County and has a population of approximately 1,100.
4. Eastaboga
Eastaboga is located on the border of Talladega and Calhoun counties. Eastaboga means "where the people reside" in Muscogee. Pictured is the Jemison House Complex - built in 1840.
5. Slapout
Slapout, known today as Holtville, is an unincorporated community in Elmore County with a population of about 4,000. Supposedly, the name "Slapout" came about when a storekeeper would let customers know an item was out of stock. For example, "Sorry, but we're slap out of that!"
6. Choccolocco
Located in Calhoun County, Choccolocco was founded in 1832 and has a population of approximately 3,000.
7. Hog Jaw
Hog Jaw is a small, unincorporated community that's located within the Marshall County limits. My oh my! What a name!
8. Hatchechubbee
Located in Russell County, Hatchechubbee is situated only 6.5 miles southwest of the town of Seale, and its post office opened in 1855.
9. Equality
Equality is a small unincorporated community in Coosa, Elmore and Tallapoosa counties - with a population of about 1,200.
10. Arab
Located in Marshall and Cullman counties, Arab was incorporated in 1892 and has a population of about 8,000. The original name of the town was misspelled by the U.S. Postal Service in 1882. It was supposed to be taken from "Arad Thompson" - son of the town's founder and first postmaster Stephen Tuttle Thompson. So, instead of "Arad, Alabama," we have "Arab, Alabama."
11. Pansey
Pansey, a quiet, unincorporated community in Houston County, is located only 13.5 miles from Dothan.
12. Dozier
Located in Crenshaw County, Dozier is a very small town with a population of less than 400.
