1. Hubert Family Tulips - New Market
Hubert Family Tulips (Hubert Farms) is a new tulip farm in North Alabama. It features more than 200,000 tulips that you can pick and bring home. It's also a wonderful place for a family picnic. Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
2. Huntsville Botanical Garden - Huntsville
The Huntsville Botanical Garden covers 112 acres and is one of North Alabama's most popular places for a day trip. It's also home to the Purdy Butterfly House, which is America's largest open-air butterfly house. Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
3. Delano Park - Decatur
Delano Park covers nearly 30 acres and is one of Alabama's most beautiful city parks. Founded in 1887, it's also one of the state's oldest parks. A unique feature of Delano Park is its variety of whimsical statues. The park is also home to a rose garden, which is extra beautiful during the spring season. Hours: Dawn until dusk.
4. Birmingham Botanical Gardens - Birmingham
The Birmingham Botanical Gardens covers 67.5 acres and is one of Alabama's most popular free outdoor attractions. It boasts more than 30 unique gardens and is also the state's largest living museum. Hours: Daily, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
5. Aldridge Gardens - Hoover
Aldridge Gardens covers approximately 30 acres and welcomes around 90,000 visitors each year. This botanical garden is best known for its gorgeous hydrangeas. It's also home to more than 90 species of birds, so be sure to bring along your binoculars if you plan to visit. Hours: Daily, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
6. Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge - West Blocton
The Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge was established in 2002 and covers nearly 4,000 acres. It's also home to the world's largest stand of Cahaba lilies, which usually bloom from mid-May to mid-June. Hours: Dawn until dusk.
7. Splinter Hill Bog Preserve - Bay Minette
Alabama's Splinter Hill Bog Preserve, also known as the Ruth McClellan Abronski Splinter Hill Bog Preserve, covers 2,100 acres and is home to thousands of beautiful pitcher plants. The preserve also boasts 4.3 miles of trails, which makes it the perfect place for a spring stroll. Hours: Dawn until dusk.
