1. Monte Sano Nature Preserve - Huntsville
Your road trip will begin at Monte Sano Nature Preserve in Huntsville. Located atop of Monte Sano Mountain, this preserve covers more than 1,000 acres and is one of the largest urban land preserves in America. It's best known for its numerous trails, which are used for hiking, biking, bird watching, etc. For more information, click here.
2. Bankhead National Forest - Double Springs
Following a short drive south, you'll arrive at North Alabama's Bankhead National Forest. Bankhead National Forest covers more than 181,000 acres and is one of Alabama's four National Forests. It's also one of the South's top hiking destinations. For more information, click here.
3. Turkey Creek Nature Preserve - Pinson
You'll continue driving south to Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Pinson. Covering nearly 500 acres, Alabama's Turkey Creek Nature Preserve is one of the Yellowhammer State's most beautiful outdoor attractions. 4. Little River Canyon National Preserve - Fort Payne
You'll then drive north to Alabama's Little River Canyon National Preserve. Located atop of Lookout Mountain and covering more than 15,000 acres, this scenic preserve is one of the Southeast's most beautiful outdoor attractions. 5. Mount Cheaha - Delta
Following a short drive south, you'll arrive at Mount Cheaha. With an elevation of 2,407 feet above sea level, Mount Cheaha is Alabama's highest natural point.
