1. U.S. Space & Rocket Center - Huntsville
Your road trip will begin at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center opened in 1970 and is usually referred to as "Earth's largest space museum." It features more than 1,500 rocketry and space artifacts, and it's also the home of Space Camp.
2. Cathedral Caverns State Park - Woodville
Following a short drive, you'll arrive at Cathedral Caverns State Park in Woodville. Cathedral Caverns State Park is home to one of the largest caves in the world, Cathedral Caverns. Cathedral Caverns has a huge cave entrance, which measures 25 feet high and 126 feet wide. This historic cave has to be seen in person to fully appreciate its spectacular size.
3. Wildflower Cafe - Mentone
To grab a bite to eat, you'll stop at the Wildflower Cafe. The Wildflower Cafe is a whimsical cafe that's tucked away in the charming town of Mentone. Its menu offers something for everyone, including its award-winning tomato pie.
4. Little River Canyon National Preserrve - Fort Payne
After finishing up your meal, you'll take a short drive to the scenic Little River Canyon National Preserve in Fort Payne. Little River Canyon National Preserve covers more than 15,000 acres and is one of Alabama's top outdoor spots. Located atop beautiful Lookout Mountain, this nature preserve's main two features are Little River Canyon and Little River Falls.
5. Noccalula Falls Park - Gadsden
Following a much longer scenic drive, you'll arrive at Noccalula Falls Park in Gadsden. Noccalula Falls Park is home to Noccalula Falls. This 90-foot waterfall is one of Alabama's most visited natural attractions. It's a definite must-see, especially after a heavy rainfall.
6. Cheaha State Park - Delta
After a short drive, you'll arrive at Cheaha State Park in Delta. Established in 1933, Cheaha State park is Alabama's oldest operating state park. It's also located atop Cheaha Mountain, Alabama's highest natural point. The views from Cheaha Mountain are amazing!
7. Kymulga Grist Mill Park - Childersburg
You'll then take a drive to Kymulga Grist Mill Park, which is located just outside of Childersburg. Established in the 1860s, Kymulga Grist Mill Park is home to the historic Kymulga Covered Bridge, which happens to be one of the only two 19th-century covered bridges that are still in their original Alabama location.
8. The Bright Star - Bessemer
Following your visit to Kymulga Grist Mill Park, you'll take a short drive to The Bright Star in Bessemer. The Bright Star was established in 1907, making it one of America's oldest family-owned restaurants. Its "Broiled Seafood Platter" was included on the list of "100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die," so you'll definitely want to give it a try.
9. McWane Science Center - Birmingham
Your next stop will be the McWane Science Center in Birmingham. The McWane Science Center opened for business in 1998 and is one of Alabama's top museums. Its fascinating exhibits attract thousands of visitors each year.
10. Horton Mill Covered Bridge - Oneonta
Your final road trip stop will be the Horton Mill Covered Bridge in Oneonta. The Horton Mill Covered Bridge spans the Calvert Prong of the Little Warrior River. It's also 70 feet tall, making it the tallest covered bridge over any U.S. waterway.
