Alabama is a wonderful place to be during the fall season. In addition to its beautiful scenery, there are several locations throughout the state that belong on your fall bucket list. One place in particular is the town of Oneonta, which you can read about below.
Oneonta is a small mountain town that's located northeast of Birmingham in Blount County, Alabama. It's home to the annual Covered Bridge Festival and was once known as the Covered Bridge Capital of the South.
Speaking of covered bridges, Oneonta is home to the historic Easley Covered Bridge, which was built in 1927, and the historic...
...Horton Mill Covered Bridge, which was built in 1934. The Easley Covered Bridge is the smallest remaining covered bridge in Blount County, and with a height of 70 feet, the Horton Mill Covered Bridge is the highest covered bridge above any U.S. waterway. There's no better time than the fall season to visit these historic covered bridges.
In addition to its covered bridges, Oneonta is also well known for its railroad history. In the late 1800s, the Louisville and Nashville Railroad began passenger and freight service to the town of Oneonta. When this service ended in 1951, the L&N Railroad Depot was eventually relocated to the town's downtown area.
In 1975, the L&N Railroad Depot was moved to its current location, the Oneonta Recreation Park. Since moving to this location, the depot has been used for hosting various functions.
One of Oneonta's main draws during the fall season is Palisades Park. Palisades Park, which covers approximately 100 acres, is one of the town's best-kept secrets. It's home to several historic buildings and...
...countless overlooks that offer some of Alabama's most incredible scenic views, especially this time of year.
