As mentioned previously, there's no shortage of great things to see and do in Alabama. If you'd like to see what all Alabama has to offer, but you only have one day, we recommend taking a day trip to the beautiful Gulf Coast to visit Fort Morgan and Dauphin Island.
If you're a history buff, you'll enjoy exploring the grounds of Fort Morgan - a masonry star fort that's located at the mouth of Mobile Bay in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Fort Morgan was built from 1819-1834. In 1960, it was designated a National Historic Landmark. And in August 1864, it played a huge role in the Battle of Mobile Bay. Address: 110 AL-180, Gulf Shores, AL 36542
After exploring the grounds of Fort Morgan, you'll then take a ferry ride to Dauphin Island.
Dauphin Island, located about 30 miles from Mobile, Alabama, is known as the "Sunset Capital of Alabama." Over the years, this beautiful island has become a popular vacation destination for people of all ages.
If you didn't get your history fix at Fort Morgan, you'll most certainly want to check out Fort Gaines. This historic fort is best known for its role in the Battle of Mobile Bay. Fishing on Dauphin Island is a relaxing activity enjoyed by many residents and visitors. You'll most definitely want to go fishing, whether it's from a charter boat or the island's famous 850-foot pier. And if you left your fishing equipment at home, no worries. You can rent fishing equipment on the island.
