1. Madison County Nature Trail - Huntsville
Your first stop is North Alabama's Madison County Nature Trail. This scenic area is a 72-acre park that's perfect for a day trip. It features a 17-acre lake, a 1.5-mile trail, and so much more. Madison County Nature Trail is located at 5000 Nature Trail Rd. SE, Huntsville, AL 35803.
2. DeSoto Falls - Mentone
Your next stop is DeSoto Falls. Plunging more than 100 feet, DeSoto Falls is one of Alabama's tallest and most spectacular waterfalls. Located atop Lookout Mountain, this waterfall is a definite must-see!
3. Little River Canyon National Preserve - Fort Payne
After a short drive, you'll arrive at Little River Canyon National Preserve. This picturesque preserve, which is best known as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is a must-visit for the entire family. Little River Canyon National Preserve is located at 4322 Little River Trl. NE, Fort Payne, AL 35967.
4. Turkey Creek Nature Preserve - Pinson
After a much longer drive, you'll arrive at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. This hidden oasis covers nearly 500 acres and is one of Alabama's most scenic destinations. Its most famous feature is "The Falls," which has become a popular swimming spot over the years. Turkey Creek Nature Preserve is located at 3906 Turkey Creek Rd., Pinson, AL 35126.
5. Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge - West Blocton
Your next stop will be the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge. This scenic area is located in central Alabama and covers nearly 4,000 acres. It's also home to the world’s largest stand of Cahaba lilies. The Cahaba National Wildlife Refuge is located at Co Rd. 24, West Blocton, AL 35184.
6. Aldridge Gardens - Hoover
After another short drive, you'll arrive at Aldridge Gardens. Since opening in 2002, Aldridge Gardens has become one of Alabama's top outdoor attractions. Covering approximately 30 acres, it's best known for its variety of hydrangeas. Aldridge Gardens is located at 3530 Lorna Rd., Hoover, AL 35216.
7. Cheaha Mountain
Your final stop will be Cheaha Mountain. With an elevation of more than 2,000 feet, Cheaha Mountain is Alabama's highest natural point. While atop of this mountain, you'll experience the most incredible views.
