The Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail in Austin, Texas will reward you with two waterfalls and refreshing swimming areas to cool off after your hike. It’s one of the best waterfall hikes in Texas.
Along this 3.2-mile out-and-back trail you’ll enjoy views of Barton Creek, interesting rock formations, small caves, and maybe if you are lucky some cute little lizard friends to guide you to your ultimate destination - Twin Falls and Sculpture Falls.

Along the Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail, you’ll hike through nicely shaded wooded areas over sometimes rocky terrain. Nothing too difficult, just plenty of fun for you “rock hoppers” out there.
You’ll most likely spot one of the trails’ key features. This man-made (maybe it was even created by fairies…) stick tee-pee is a fun stop for kids to explore and wonder about what enchanted creature lives there.
You’ll hit Twin Falls about a half mile from the trailhead and Sculpture Falls about a mile further down the trail. Each one offers a cool place to slip in and enjoy a swim if you so desire.
Dogs are welcome if they are on a leash so bring them along and watch them swim and frolic to their heart's content.
Even when water levels are low this hike offers beautiful scenic spots to admire and enjoy a photo or two.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. We've talked about hidden gems in Texas so much at this point, you'd be almost certain we've covered them all. That, folks, would be an incorrect assumption. Our state continues to surprise me with its seemingly endless natural wonders that take your breath away. Cattail Falls in Big Bend National Park is one such place, and unlike some of the other hidden gems we've written about, which are actually quite crowded at certain times of the year, almost nobody knows about this little waterfall. It takes a short hike to reach it, but the 80-foot waterfall at the end is a reward that keeps on giving. Check it out for yourself!

One of the most beautiful places in Texas can be found near Marathon after hiking along a 5.7-mile out-and-back trail.
When this scene starts to unfold before your eyes, you'll be absolutely awestruck. Not many people are aware that a place this majestic exists in Texas - this picture surely doesn't look like the Lone Star State.
Many people claim Cattail Falls is elusive, but it actually isn't difficult to find. It isn't listed on the maps, but all you have to do is take the dirt road across from Sam Nail Ranch until you come to a parking lot.
Big Bend National Park is located 70 miles south of Marathon and can be accessed by following Highway 385 to the entrance.
