Abilene is the official Storybook Capital of Texas, and one park in particular is especially fairytale-like. The Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden features giant sculptures of characters from iconic children's storybooks such as "The Three Little Pigs" and "Charlotte's Web." It's the most whimsical park in Texas to stroll through!
Located on the grounds of the Abilene Convention Center, the Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden is a place where imagination runs wild.
A tribute to the late artist Garth Williams, the garden features sculptures of characters from some of his most popular books, including "Charlotte’s Web," and "Stuart Little."
You'll feel like you've stepped into a fairytale right away as you stroll along the paths lined with majestic, towering oak trees.
Adults and children alike are sure to have a blast - this place makes everyone feel like a kid.
The garden is equal parts fun and educational, with a sign next to each sculpture detailing the story that inspired it.
Let yourself become fully immersed in the magic, leaving reality behind and stepping into the world of fiction.
Five sets of sculptures bring to life everything from classic bedtime stories like "The Three Little Pigs" to seasonal figures such as the mean and green Mr. Grinch.
You could easily spend an entire day getting lost in the tales!
Additionally, regular performances by theatre groups and storytellers provide interactive entertainment for the little ones.
Keep up with the garden's website to see an updated schedule!
There is also a handy map posted near the entrance that lists all the sculptures within the garden as well as throughout downtown as a whole.
You can even download an app that provides an audio tour, or go on a sculpture scavenger hunt. So fun!
Open year-round, the garden does not charge for admission.
It's also lit at night, so feel free to visit any time from dawn until dusk.
Both handicap accessible and (leashed) pet-friendly, the garden was designed for everyone to enjoy.
There's no place quite like it in the entire Lone Star State!
