What's your favorite lake in Texas? Of course, there are the famous ones like Lake Travis, Toledo Bend, and Canyon Lake, but the lesser-known lakes still deserve some recognition. Richland-Chambers Reservoir is an underrated oasis that's actually one of the largest lakes in the Lone Star State, and it's heaven for nature lovers (especially those of us who enjoy fishing).
Just an hour south of the hectic Dallas-Fort Worth Metro lies your new favorite escape: the Richland-Chambers Reservoir.
One of the largest lakes in Texas, this manmade reservoir boasts a whopping 330 miles of shoreline. The lake supplies water to Tarrant County residents.
More than just a water source, however, the Richland-Chambers Reservoir is a haven for outdoor recreation. Visitors can fish, swim, and boat, enjoying the feeling of being in the great outdoors with few distractions (since the lake is never very crowded).
Among all of the activities the lake offers, fishing is definitely the most popular. Nearly every single species of game fish native to Texas can be found here, including several types of bass, catfish, crappie, and more.
You can either launch your own boat from one of several ramps, or embark on a guiding fishing trip. There are several tour operators in the area, so you won't have to wait around long for your chance to catch a line.
Another thing the Richland-Chambers Reservoir is known for is its sunsets. If you aren't in a hurry, plan on sticking around to catch one - I promise you won't regret it.
The lake also offers a campground with restrooms and showers. Some of the campsites are right on the water for easy lake access, and many are shaded by large trees.
