The Lone Star State has quite a few cave systems, but most are commercialized and don’t provide the thrill of discovery that some of us seek. One of our most popular Texas state parks is hiding a secret that few people know about, so you’ll feel like an explorer founding new territory. If you love unique adventures, then head to Concan to explore Crystal Caves inside Garner State Park. As one of the best hidden caves in Texas, you should explore it at least once.
Considering the park has 11 miles of trails situated on more than 1700 acres of Hill Country terrain, it's no wonder most people have never heard of Crystal Cave.
The natural wonder is 30 feet deep, much cooler than surface temperatures, and full of glittering crystal - hence its name.
The 0.62-mile hike takes about 45 minutes and gets fairly steep at certain points. It's still accessible to most provided appropriate footwear is worn, and the reward is absolutely worth a little sweat.
Plenty of visitors have left their mark on the walls, but not in the best way. Tempting as it may be to etch your name into the secret cavern, park officials ask us all to join them in preserving the area by tampering with it as little as possible.
Kids of all ages will have a blast exploring, especially during a month dedicated to what lurks in the darkness. Peer in each tiny crevice and around every corner to see what you might find.
If you want an extended adventure, several other trails connect with this one. Check out this Garner State Park link for a map to help plan your full day of fun!
