It can be hard to find a ghost tour that doesn’t just operate around Halloween — enter Sisters Grimm. This year-round fright-fest offers several different spooktacular activities, including a 2.5-hour bus ride to some of the most haunted places in San Antonio.
San Antonio is widely regarded as the most haunted city in Texas, primarily because of the gruesome battle that took place right here at the Alamo. From historic missions dating to the 1600s to an old county jail, we can't even count the number of buildings in town with at least one sinister story behind them.
Sisters Grimm Ghost Tours has capitalized on the city's paranormal notoriety with a bus ride that drives passengers straight into their worst nightmares. This 2.5-hour fright-fest leads to some of San Antonio's spookiest sights, including the Old Bexar County Jail and an infamous cemetery.
Tickets are $40 each, but you can shave off $3 apiece by reserving a spot online. 7 p.m. is the family-friendly tour, while the later ride appeals to adults because it visits a bar.
Old City Cemetery, one stop on the agenda, just might be the most haunted graveyard in the Lone Star State, with three layers of burial plots totalling over 12,000 bodies. It's actually seven cemeteries merged into one, serving as the final resting place for many souls gone too soon - including victims of the tragic 1900 hurricane.
If you prefer staying grounded while learning about things that go bump in the night, there's also a walking tour. It's just 90 minutes long, but still covers all the same locations. Price ranges from $15-20 a person, and the starting time is 8:30 p.m. Wear comfortable shoes and don't forget your camera!
Among the places you'll visit is the Menger Hotel, commonly considered to be the most haunted hotel in Texas. It first opened over 160 years ago and has seen a robbery, devastating fire, and even the recruitment of Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders. The building has aged well, hauntingly beautiful as ever after all this time.
Other tours include a creepy crawl of local pubs and dinner inside the Menger followed by a haunted history walk. No matter which experience you decide on, rest assured it'll haunt your dreams for many nights to come.
