Feeling blue? You won't be after visiting Llano. This charming small town in Texas boasts a slow-paced lifestyle and abundant natural beauty. Everyone knows each other's names, and visitors are treated like lifelong residents. So if life has you down, then head to Llano and turn that frown upside down!
Located in the iconic Texas Hill Country region, Llano is a charming small town with a population of just over 3,000.
Rich in history, the town is home to a number of buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Among them is the stately Llano County Courthouse and Jail, which you can see rising up above the trees in this photo.
People are always out and about in the quaint downtown district, but their pace is unhurried.
Far removed from the chaos of the big city, Llano residents (and visitors) get to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
Get to know the town at the Llano County Historical Museum, nestled along the banks of the Llano River.
The museum is located in a circa-1900 building that used to be a drugstore, and the original marble soda fountain and leather stools remain intact. How charming!
When's the last time you visited an old-fashioned, single-screen movie theater?
Situated in the heart of the courthouse square, the Lantex Theater is one such place. The theater is still going strong after almost a century in business, showing three weekly movie screenings, plus live music with the Llano Country Opry on the 2nd Saturday of every month.
Some of the other notable buildings in town include the Badu Building and the Southern Hotel, the latter of which is pictured here.
Originally built as a stagecoach stop and later serving as a hotel and boarding house, this 1881 gem is a Llano icon.
The bulk of Llano's tourism occurs in the summer when people come from all over Texas to make a splash in the river.
Great for everything from swimming to tubing to kayaking, this blue-green oasis is the perfect place to keep cool.
Spring is also a popular time to visit, as it's when the roadsides come alive with eye-popping wildflowers.
You'll see our state flower, the bluebonnet, plus vibrant blooms in every other color of the rainbow. It's impossible to be in a sour mood when you're surrounded by so much natural beauty!
