One of the best caves in Texas, Inner Space Cavern, doesn’t just boast an entire labyrinth of underground passageways and breathtaking rock and mineral formations. It also offers an epic aboveground attraction, the Saber Tooth Zip Ride, that the whole family can enjoy. After touring the cave, hop on the zipline for an exhilarating ride that showcases the Texas Hill Country as you’ve never seen before. This is one of our favorite and best day trips in Texas and we guarantee that you’ll want to visit over and over again.
Next time you find yourself in the Texas Hill Country, don't leave without paying a visit to Inner Space Cavern in Georgetown.
One of the best-preserved caves in the region, Inner Space Cavern was hidden for over 10,000 years before the Texas Highway Department accidentally discovered it in 1963.
The cavern features vast, amphitheater-like rooms, breathtaking rock and mineral formations, and even prehistoric animal bones. Whether it's your first or your hundredth visit, there's always something unique and different to discover.
Kept at a constant 72 degrees year-round, the cavern is just the right temperature - not too cold or too warm. It also doesn't flood during rains, so closures are rarely necessary.
Several different tours are available to appeal to a variety of fitness levels. The Adventure Tour is the most classic tour, suitable for spelunkers of all ages.
This one-hour tour leads participants on a paved and lit trail (approximately one mile in length) to see the most iconic rooms and formations within the cave.
Other tours include the Hidden Passages Tour, Wild Cave Tour, and Ice Age Tour.
The Hidden Passages Tour features a newly-opened section of the cave that few people have seen or explored, while the Wild Cave Tour is a strenuous, four-hour excursion that takes you climbing and crawling deep into the cavern like a true cave explorer. The Ice Age Tour is led by real paleontologists and highlights the animals that called Inner Space home during the Ice Age.
As if exploring the cave itself wasn't fun enough already, Inner Space Cavern also has an aboveground attraction that will make your experience truly unforgettable.
The Saber Tooth Zip Ride is a zipline roller coaster that takes riders 130 feet into the air, pauses at the top to showcase sweeping panoramic views of the Texas Hill Country, then comes soaring back at 33 miles per hour.
Other on-site attractions include a gift shop, a snack bar with a homemade fudge counter, and gemstone panning.
Visit the Inner Space Cavern website or follow Inner Space Cavern on Facebook for more information, including current hours of operation and ticket prices for both cave tours and the zipline.
