Editor's Note: Jefferson Railway's owners have retired. The Christmas Express Train, therefore, is no longer available.
Holiday trains aren't exactly few and far between here in Texas, but in our humble opinion, the more, the merrier! Jefferson Railway has a Christmas Express ride that tells the story of Christmas with the help of several dazzling light displays along the way.
Jefferson Railway gives riders the opportunity of a lifetime - riding on an antique 50-year-old steam locomotive. The ride runs along Cypress Bayou and includes seeing historic remains from the 19th century, marveling at native wildlife, and hearing about the small town's rich history.
Make this Christmas the most memorable one yet, as the train gets trimmed up with festive adornments. You'll see lighted vignettes along the Cypress Bayou River and listen to the story of Christmas.
Before taking off, spend some time appreciating how decked-out the front lawn of the depot is. Blow-ups, lights galore, and other festive decorations set the scene for an afternoon filled with holiday cheer.
Open-air seating means every passenger gets an equally incredible view. Whiz past light displays that are so close, you could almost reach out and touch them!
Upon arriving back at the depot, come inside to warm up. A roaring fire, lighted tree, and stockings hung on the chimney with care end your day on the coziest note possible.
First-class tickets are $15, while a seat in coach will cost you $12. Children under four are free in first class, while those under six can ride at no charge in coach.
Address: 400 East Austin Street, Jefferson, TX 75657. The Christmas Express Train begins on Friday, November 29, and will depart at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. every subsequent weekend in December.
Head to the railway's website or Facebook page to learn more.
