If you need help compiling a list of restaurants to tackle this year, look no further. Yelp just came out with their annual Top 100 list, and seven Texas eateries made the cut.
1. Tommy Tamale (Grapevine)
For the third year in a row, Tommy Tamale has secured a spot on the list - clocking in at an impressive #7 this time. Six different types of tamales, including zesty hatch and habanero pork, are served with beans and rice for a well-rounded meal. You can even get a tamale pie layered with Fritos, beef chili, queso, and your choice of tamal.
2. SP Brazilian Steakhouse (Lakeway)
Brazilian steakhouses are all the rage these days, and SP certainly doesn't disappoint. With 14 cuts of meat, a salad bar, a wide variety of sides and desserts, and expertly mixed drinks, it offers an unforgettable dining experience. Juicy top sirloin, bacon-wrapped chicken breast, sausage, and pork ribs are just a few of the mouthwatering options. Oh, and don't skip out on dessert no matter how full you are - tres leches cake, creme brulee, flan, and several other decadent treats perfectly balance out the savory meal.
3. Gino's Deli Stop N Buy (San Antonio)
Nobody would expect a full-service deli hiding in this unassuming San Antonio gas station, but that's exactly what you'll find. Gino's climbed the ranks from #65 to #21 over the past couple of years, and the improvement couldn't be more well-deserved. Massive sandwiches, cheesesteaks, and burgers are filled to the brim with meat, cheese, and all the other obligatory fixings.
4. Craft Pita (Houston)
Craft Pita brings the fresh, vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean right here to Houston. With local produce and sustainably-sourced meat, you can feel good about the food from both an ethical and nutritional standpoint. Colorful grain bowls, pita sandwiches, and succulent rotisserie chicken bring people together over a delicious, nourishing meal.
5. Sky Rocket Burger (Dallas)
Sometimes, an old-fashioned, no-frills burger hits the spot like nothing else. 100% Angus prime choice select beef is ground onsite, formed into 1/4-pound patties, and piled onto a toasted & buttered bun. All burgers include lettuce, tomato, pickles, secret sauce, and mayonnaise, and grilled onions, jalapenos, and several other sauces can be added at no additional charge.
6. The Aussie Grind (Frisco)
Australian restaurants are few and far between, but that's a shame - the land down under truly has some delicious food. Massive 'breaky' plates with a little bit of everything, eggs 'benny,' and fish 'n chips only scratch the surface of the giant menu. Kiddos can enjoy a hotcake topped with syrup, a berry compote, fairy floss (cotton candy), and vanilla ice cream.
7. Vizo's African Restaurant & Bar (Lubbock)
Unlike larger metropolitan areas like Houston, the Panhandle isn't exactly a cultural melting pot. Vizo's, the first African bar and restaurant in West Texas, seeks to change that narrative with delicious food that takes your taste buds on a trip across the world. Fish pies, rice and vegetable stew, and fried plantains use authentic flavors in a way foodies everywhere can appreciate. At the bar, guests can enjoy wine-based cocktails and rare imported beers while listening to traditional African tunes.
