I grew up loving medieval times, if it had anything to do with castles, knights, and monarchy I was fascinated by it. So when I see a castle it ignites the inner child in me and gets me pretty fired up. That is just one of the reasons I love the University of the South. If you have ever seen the architectural brilliance of this collage you know precisely what I mean, and for those of you who haven't, trust me it is a jaw-dropping experience. If you want to get up close with this local college then The Sewanee Inn offers a great look into this phenomenal campus while maintaining the classic look of the university. The look of this boutique hotel in Tennessee alone might bump this up on your bucket list.
Located right on the property of the University of the South, this spot has become popular for those visiting the college or visitors who are just fascinated with this charming little town. The inn is certainly a great place for special events or a home base for some mountainous adventures.
After all, Sewanee is a fabulous small town in Tennessee. Just look at the surrounding forest, this little part of the volunteer state is teeming with hidden gems just waiting to be explored.
The architecture is similar to the university, it might not have tall spires, towers, and other typical castle features but it does look distinctly European. The Gothic stylings make for an esthetically pleasing look and transport you from middle Tennessee to something more akin to a French countryside.
Located in one convenient place you can walk right out to the beautiful lush green golf course. Guests can even walk from the hotel to the wilderness and escape into the woods with hiking trails and bike paths. If you want to explore the area on two wheels the inn provides complimentary bike rentals.
You can draw parallels between Hogwarts and the University of the South and at the Sewanee Inn, you will find similar features. From the wood paneling to the classic European-influenced decore. This place makes me want to start looking for trap doors and hidden bookshelf levers. The highest quality and design have gone into this inn and you will notice it in every nook and cranny.
The hotel features 43 different rooms so you should have plenty of options when it comes to picking the room just right for you.
The luxury continues into each room with spacious rooms and lovely furnishings. Each room is given a different vantage point from the beautiful surrounding mountains to the perfectly manicured golf course. The different options available will give guests a variety to suit their needs.
Can you see yourself waking up to see the sunrise in this gorgeous little town as rays of the sunshine peak in through your window that overlooks the inn's beautiful property?
When it comes time for dinner there is no need to leave the premises, just head on down the hall to Shakerag. This is the inn’s fine option when it comes to fancy dishes. Whereas the Shakerag has great lunch and dinner options the Green’s View Grill serves up delicious quicker bites like burgers and wraps with a lovely view of the golf course. Being right in the hotel itself has some serious perks and both restaurants are great choices when it comes time to fuel up for your next adventure.
As far as the interesting name for the restaurant, the name is a nod to the history of the land. During prohibition, if someone was in need of a drink they would have to wave a white rag signaling to the moonshiners someone was interested in their wares. That is why the restaurant is named Shakerag, as for the Green's View Grill? Well, that's simply because it offers a view of the golf course.
Sewanee is such a charming little town in Tennessee, and part of that charm comes from all the natural beauty found in town. Head out into the woods for an epic adventure, hike to vistas, and enjoy quiet solitude in the mountains. There is a wide variety of places to hike and explore. One particular unique find is the Sewanee Natural Bridge. This simple hike takes you to a massive arch hidden in the woods and is a must-see for anyone visiting this small town.
Another great option for mountainous exploration is a trip to Bridal Veil Falls. This moderately rated trail will take you just over 2 miles and has an elevation gain of just under 500 feet. The reward at the end of the hike is a beautiful multi-tiered waterfall.
The college itself is one of the biggest draws to the town and I highly recommend taking a tour of the campus. You won’t find another place quite like this one in Tennessee.
The University is amazing to see any time of the year but have you ever seen Sewanee in the snow? It is breathtaking.
The Sewanee Inn is your home base and gateway to this small-town adventure. We love our charming small towns all across our state and this one always ranks high on our list. With stunning architecture to match the beautiful surroundings, this is one small town you will want to visit. What do you say do you want to stay at this boutique hotel in Tennessee?
