The Fourth of July is a fantastic holiday in the south. Why? Because of the people and the food and the wonderful displays of patriotism on display throughout the region. Tennessee has made it's own mark on history recently, with Nashville being rated as one of the top displays to watch in the nation - second only to New York City. Not bad for southern pride, don't you think?

12) Festival on the Fourth - Knoxville

Beginning at four and ending around ten pm, this is the perfect East Tennessee festival for the whole family. You'll be able to indulge in good food and great music, with the whole of the evening culminating in a gorgeous fireworks display.

11) Fireworks Extravaganza - Germantown: Get here at five to begin celebrating your favorite nation's birthday! Fireworks start at 9:10.

10) Annual Patriot Festival - Pigeon Forge: Year 25 is pretty solid, don't you think? With one of the earliest start times, at 1:30 pm, you can tire out those kids REAL quick. Diamon Rio is hosting, so even the 'rents know this fireworks display and celebration simply can't be missed.

9) Franklin on the Fourth - Franklin

With 8pm fireworks, Franklin on the Fourth is good for those with tiny ones who are looking to get home earlier rather than later. The event is hosted by the Franklin Lions Club and begins festivities at 10am.

8) Smoking the Water 4th of July Festival - Kingston: You simply can't bow out on the Miss Firecracker pageant, can you?! Or stay away from the neat-o fireworks show Kingston throws over Watts Bar Lake. It's all free, and the parade is spot on.

7) Fourth of July Midnight Parade - Gatlinburg

With more than a mile long parade, at MIDNIGHT, no less, you can enter into the fourth of July in style. Also? Can you honestly beat being the first people EVER to celebrate your nation's birthday? It's pretty cool.

6) 4th of July Celebration - Adams: Sweet little Adams, Tennessee is offering a great picnic area and festival that's capped off with a fireworks display when the sun sets.

5) Pops on the River - Chattanooga

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera is giving a free concert at Coolidge Park on the fourth, topped off with fireworks over the Tennessee River.

4) Independence Day Celebration - Collierville: Wow, guys - this is the 30th year that Collierville has thrown a rockin' party for the United States. We bet you want to join, hey? Fireworks start at 9:45 pm.

3) 4th of July Celebration - Memphis

Mud Island River Park serves as the host for a family fun festival a fireworks show. right on the Mississippi River.

2) Celebration and Anvil Shoot - Museum of Appalachia

If you're looking for a traditional kind of celebration, then Clinton is your place of places. The small town vibe is the neatest, plus it's kind of neat to sling around an anvil - let's all be honest here.

1) Let Freedom Sing - Nashville

Ranked as #2 in the nation, you should FOR SURE make it down to Music City for a free music festival and a fireworks show that will leave your jaw on the floor.
