Nashville is always opening brand new, beautifully designed and elegant eateries, boasting everything from indulgent donuts to Italian food and hot chicken. In the myriad of old and new restaurants, sometimes it's hard to choose the right place to eat on a Friday night that combines the atmospheric heart you're looking for with a whole lot of southern flair. The Old School, located just outside the hustle and bustle of the city, makes for a great mix of rustic charm and dining decadence. If you haven't been? It's a must!
The Old School serves up reinvented American-Southern fare in Nashville, Tennessee. It operates as a non-profit eatery that sources all of its produce either from nearby farms or on-site.
Located in picturesque Bells Bend, The Old School focuses not only on decadent eats but effective community service. Job training is provided for locals with both developmental and intellectual disabilities, providing a beautiful way to invest in the local community.
Since it's located on a farm, The Old School operates both as a restaurant, venue and working farm. The fully restored 1936 schoolhouse serves as the core of the property, whereas the grounds are occupied growing seasonal produce. The Old School uses zero-waste farming technology and everything grown on-site is done so in an organic manner.
All the better to reach the table! The menu is constantly changing, but it features seasonal provisions that are at their peak during the time of your visit.
Depending on the time you visit, the menu will change. During the summer, for example, The Old School often has a summer break dinner, brunch, afternoon social and dessert menu. From a seasonal charcuterie board to cast-iron cornbread and charred okra, there's really nothing more decadent. Unless you count the ratatouille galette, of course...
...or the crispy herbed potatoes. Or the black sesame sourdough french toast. The BLT Benedict or the cast iron egg frittata. You see where we're going here, right? Right.
What a beautiful place to enjoy an evening meal, or perhaps an indulgent weekend brunch.
