Everybody knows that if you're looking for live music in Nashville, you need to head to Lower Broadway. You might be able to catch at big act at the Ryman, but you're sure to catch the next big act at any of the honky tonks, bars, and venues that are located on the main strip. But if you take a short walk south of Broadway, you'll find one of downtown's best-kept secrets. They've got some of the best food in town, and if you're going to discover Nashville's next big act, you're sure to find them here.
The Listening Room Cafe has been around since 2006, but it has had multiple homes before its current location, starting in Franklin and then moving for a few years to Cummins Station in the Gulch.
The newest venue is close to the main drag of Lower Broadway, but it's removed enough to be a little quieter, which is exactly what the Listening Room strives for. This is the true Nashville music scene.
The Listening Room has songwriters and other small bands on stage all night every night. They pride themselves in being a spot designed for musicians to get themselves out there and to get themselves heard.
If you want to go in the evening when they have their shows, it's smart to get your tickets in advance. Tickets are typically $5-$10, but keep in mind that there's also a $15 food/drink minimum per person for anyone attending the show.
Speaking of food and drink, holy cow does the Listening Room know how to make some good food. There's nothing on the menu that isn't good, and if you just want to eat and aren't interested in the music, it's best to go a lunch time.
The made-from-scratch nachos are topped with smoked cheddar cheese sauce, crispy bacon, dollops of sour cream, fiery jalapenos, green onions and the whole thing is topped off with bbq sauce. You can expect true southern decadence here!
You can also rent out private space for personal events and weddings. The convenient downtown location is great for a myriad of events and opportunities, and the rustic setting is perfect for a Nashville party.
So whether you're in to great food, great music, or both, head on down to the Listening Room Cafe today. They're open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday for brunch. They're located at 618 4th Ave S.
