All over Tennessee you can find mesmerizing outdoor attractions that will take you away from it all. One of our most favorite places is the Great Smoky Mountains. A natural wonder we get to share with the state of North Carolina, the national park covers 816 square miles and leaves much to be explored. If you've somehow yet to visit this magical place, then let's go over just a few of the reasons why this place is one of the most beautiful places you'll find on the planet.
Some of the oldest landscapes you'll find in the entire world, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is made up of roughly 200 million year old mountains.
The most visited national park in all of America, in 2015 Great Smoky Mountains National Park had nearly 11 million visitors.
Endless natural wonders await, with most of the waterfalls in the national park falling on our side of the state border!
You'll view waterfalls that are anywhere from 100 to 300 feet tall, and you'll find tons of small cascading waterfalls along the creeks as well.
One of the many things the park is known for? A fascinating variety of wildlife and the title of Salamander Capital of the World!
It's easy to forget that this is the home of the Salamander Capital of the World when you have much larger animals roaming around like our black bears and elk. All throughout the park you'll find yourself spotting wildlife like turkeys, white-tailed deer, coyotes and more.
A popular spot for visitors to explore is Clingmans Dome, the highest point in the park.
Standing tall at 6, 643 feet, this is Tennessee's highest point and has an unforgettable panoramic view. The unbelievable observation tower right in the park is open year round, allowing you to see anywhere from 20 to 100 miles out into the distance, depending on the weather.
Another scenic area of the national park that will completely amaze you? Cades Cove.
Surrounding you with the beautiful mountains, this area is where visitors most frequently come to visit when they want to view all of the wildlife. Enjoy taking a drive on the 11-mile loop that brings you around the cove and gives you great opportunities to pull off of the road to soak in all that you're able to see.
