The bookstore seems to be going the way of the dinosaur nowadays, a hero of the past and a keeper of stories that are all too quickly available online. Still, here in the south, we love to experience the past the way it was meant to be experienced, and that's why Tennessee plays host to McKay, a warehouse chock full of used books, CDs, DVDs, and oh so much more. This incredible used book warehouse in Tennessee is a treasure hunt in the making, and you never know what wonders are hiding in their collections. Have you ever made it out to one of their Tennessee-based locations? If not, this is one local business that belongs on your bucket list.
McKay is a fantastic place where folks bring their previously loved media like books, video games, movies, and electronics to sell for cash or store credit.
With locations in Chattanooga, Nashville, and Knoxville, this business has a storefront near you that's not too hard to reach.
The store then uses all donated and bought materials to stock their shelves at fabulously low prices. There are multiple locations all over Tennessee, and each offers up a differentiating and vast inventory.
Thousands of stories line these shelves, written in the voices of thousands of characters and authors. Fiction and nonfiction peacefully coexist here.
You can buy gift cards or come with a wad of cash for your new books, but keep in mind that McKay's does all sales in person: there's no opportunity to buy online. You have to come into the store to indulge, and we definitely like it that way.
There's no indulgence greater than a good book! Bibliophiles will absolutely fall in love with this shopping opportunity.
Hundreds of customers come daily to trade their old books and media pieces for something new, which means inventory is constantly changing for the better. The store is exhaustively organized as well, with all books put into a computer system that makes it easier to find what you're looking for.
There's so much worth in wandering around, however. It's hard not to judge a book by its cover, but boy, are there some incredible covers waiting to catch your eye!
There's also a free box located outside every McKay's location. They're outside the front doors, and you'll want to keep in mind that these were items rejected due to age or condition. If you dig your way through, you may find yourself a diamond in the rough!
Who doesn't love a good freebie? You just might find your new favorite book in this box.
You'll want to check the store's calendar for fun community events, as well. You never know what fun is being promoted by your local McKay's!
Visit their website for upcoming events and topics of interest.
The store has reported bringing in as many as 10,000 new items a day, which means that this revolving door of good stories and musical gems is a great place to spend a Saturday or to stock your personal library.
Due to high demand, this store does not sell their books online. You'll want to visit in person anyway, as nothing compares to the smell of a nice, crisp book.
Have you been? Would you go? We're consistently impressed by the expansive options available at each location, so it's worth the trek out and about!
