Everyone wants to spend the night in an eerie space, right? It's like a rite of passage. To spend the evening with a ghost or the whisper of a memory, to indulge in a creepy night unlike any other...okay, alright. Maybe it's not quite the type of thing EVERYONE wants to do, but if you're ready for the experience? Hales Bar Marina & Resort has the heart and history that you're looking for, right in the midst of the Volunteer State. This is one haunted place in Tennessee you'll want to experience again and again.
Hales Bar Marina & Resort is located on the Nickajack Lake, barely 15 miles from the heart of downtown Chattanooga. It's also easily accessed from Nashville, since it's only a few miles off the highway and roughly 100 from Music City itself.
The location goes unmatched. With a full service marina and floating cabins for rent, this is one campground that offers you the chance to fish right from your front porch. It's truly magical!
There's a darker side to this beatific place, of course. Hales Bar Marina & Resort just so happens to be completely and totally haunted.
The area was featured on Season 5 of the Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures television show, which gained it a national audience.
You see, Hales Bar Marina & Resort sits on former Native American lands. It never belonged to the state in its earliest years, and there are rumors that the land is affected by a deeply disturbing Cherokee curse.
Hales Bar Dam offers its own ghost tours, and the area remains popular for paranormal investigators. There have been testimonies of apparitions and terrifying noises, names being called out in the night and bone-chilling screams from disembodied throats.
If you haven't been to Hales Bar Marina & Resort, you may want to book a night. Who knows what stories you'll bring back?
