If you want your next getaway to be full of class, you’ve got to stay at Wilson Schoolhouse Inn! True to its name, the building that houses the inn was originally a one-room schoolhouse. And though it hasn’t been a school for decades, it still maintains much of its original character, including a slate blackboard and antique school desks.
Class is in session at Wilson Schoolhouse Inn in La Crosse!
The perfect escape, the inn is nestled on 12 acres of woods, fields, and gardens, yet is only minutes from downtown La Crosse.
But its real allure is that it’s an actual schoolhouse. That’s right; where students once studied, you can now relax in comfort.
Originally the Wilson School, it was built in 1917 and functioned as a one-room school until 1965.
An important (and charming!) relic from the past, the schoolhouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as well as La Crosse’s Local Register of Historic Places.
In recent years, the schoolhouse has undergone some renovations, transforming it into a unique retreat – complete with all the comforts of home.
Featuring two bedrooms and five beds (a queen bed, two twins, and two sleeper sofas), the inn can sleep eight.
And though the schoolhouse has been restored, great care has been taken to maintain its original charm.
Antique desks, an original slate blackboard, historic photos, and other memorabilia all serve as an ode to the building’s past.
The open atmosphere is another remnant of the building’s former life (and a huge perk).
Overflowing with charm and class, Wilson Schoolhouse Inn definitely belongs on your bucket list.
