The hustle and bustle of daily life can be exhausting and sometimes all we want from a few days away is the chance to unwind and slow down. In the town of Onalaska, just north of La Crosse, you'll find one of the most interesting, relaxed bed and breakfasts in all of Wisconsin. At Rainbow Ridge Farms, you'll find a much more laid back way of life. Take a few days away from your fast-paced life to spend a few days on a working Wisconsin farm. Not only will it help you unwind, but at Rainbow Ridge Farms, you also might get to help feed a baby goat or take part in goat yoga.
"Tucked in a beautiful coulee of the Driftless Region, you can retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Established in 1996, Rainbow Ridge Farms is an award winning, favorite destination for couples and families to enjoy a farm-stay vacation. The animals are friendly, the B&B is charming, and we have WiFi, air conditioning, and a gas fireplace so you don’t have to 'rough it' too much," says the Rainbow Ridge Farms website, letting you know exactly what you're getting into. This is a farm stay and there are cute, cuddly animals to help your stress melt away.
Rainbow Ridge is a working hobby farm where they raise award-winning dairy goats, sheep, chickens, heritage turkeys, and heritage pigs. The farm focuses on sustainable farming techniques and all of their animals are pasture/free-range. Visitors to this farmstay can be as involved and interactive as they'd like. Getting to be hands-on is what makes a stay here so awesome and unique.
Activities at the farm vary by season, so you can plan your visit around the types of things that appeal to you most. Staying here means you can help milk goats, feed babies, work in the garden and collect eggs for breakfast in the morning. During kidding season, guests are welcome to join us in the barn while kids and lambs are born. The owners do a great job of updating the website and Facebook page so guests know when to expect new baby animals on the farm.
The farm is the owners home and there are just four guest rooms here. It's a small spot for a getaway, but that means there's a ton of chances to be involved. While the farm and the animals are much of the draw here, it's also conveniently located very near to La Crosse, as well as three state bike trails, the Mississippi and Black Rivers and tons of options in both summer and winter. Plus, this region along the Mississippi River is known for its wineries and there are also a number of breweries in the area. It's an ideal location that allows you to be near to civilization but still feel like you've gotten away from the rat race for a bit.
The kidding dates for 2019 have already been estimated and you'll find right on the website that plenty of goat kids are expected to be born in February and March. It's a pretty amazing experience and they bottle feed the kids after they are born, so Spring is an amazing time to visit Rainbow Ridge Farm.
Even if getting to take part in the farming part of this bed and breakfast isn't your cup of tea, you will not find a more serene and relaxing location than this. It's the perfect amount of removed from the city while still being close enough to have access to tons of restaurants and activities. You'll be hard pressed to find any residue of stress while you enjoy the views at Rainbow Ridge Farms.
