Sometimes you just want to get away and relax. There are plenty of places all across the state that offer a pretty place to unwind, but you've never stayed anywhere like Sabamba before. These folks have renovated an 1890's farmhouse and filled their farm with alpacas to create a totally unique, fun and unbelievably relaxing retreat near DePere that you're going to want to check out.
Check out this beautiful old farmhouse that will serve as your base for a fabulous trip away from home. The big old house has beautiful details and is super warm and welcoming. It's the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway that's far from the stresses of home.
The big draw is the wide, sweeping wrap-around porch that invites you to stop and relax for a while. Whether you take your morning coffee here or watch the sunset with a glass of wine, you'll love kicking back, relaxing and watching the world go by from this truly amazing porch.
The name Sabamba comes from the first letter of the owners seven children. These folks were used to busy lives, so they bought and remodeled this house, started with a herd of alpacas and it's only grown from there.
Folks can come and do a free self-guided tour any day their store is open or they can sign up for more in-depth for time with the alpacas, but you're going to get to be up close and personal with these silly, wonderful animals just by staying right here on the farm.
Imagine getting to wake up and spend the day with the alpacas. Talk about a relaxing getaway. You can't possibly be stressed out or upset around these goofy and wonderful animals. They're friendly and cute and have a demeanor similar to cats.
Alpacas are smaller than llamas, making them more approachable and manageable. You'll love watching them frolic and play. Something about these fun creatures just always puts a smile on my face.
I love how they always seem to make direct eye-contact with the camera. It's like being on an episode of "The Office." I can imagine spending a full day just creating an inner monologue and conversation among the alpacas. They're expressive and social and you can just imagine all the things running through their heads.
There are two beautiful, spacious rooms at Sabamba that you can stay in. You'll find luxury and comfort in this rambling old farmhouse. Take a relaxing soak in the big tub or spend some time in front of the fireplace. You're not coming here to use it as a home base to explore. You're coming to Sabamba to experience something you can't find anywhere else and to get away from all the hustle and bustle. Put your phone away, leave your computer at home, and really take the time to relax here.
The folks at Sabamba have a whole store devoted to products from their alpacas. You'll find all kinds of warm and wonderful knitted products as well as a number of other interesting bits from the farm. Alpaca wool is actually rather amazing. It's naturally hypoallergenic and not itchy. It is actually five times warmer than sheep's wool and lasts longer — it's more durable and doesn't pill or wear like sheep wool does.
Alpacas are such wonderful, fun creatures and you'll love the chance to spend some time up close and personal with them. Here they are birthing, raising and even boarding alpacas. You'll see the whole process and you might even see a young alpaca in the house as the owners' nurse it or help keep it healthy.
If you're looking for a chance to truly escape and love the idea of getting to spend some time on a working farm where you'll have the very best time, Sabamba is the place for you.
Sabamba Alpacas is located at 2338 Hickory Rd., De Pere, WI 54115. Learn more about the farm and schedule a time to visit on their website. To see more gorgeous alpaca pictures, check out their Facebook page.
