If you're up for an outdoor adventure like no other, head north to Pattison State Park. As snow blankets the Northwoods, this wild and beautiful park undergoes a breathtaking transformation, as its waterfalls slowly freeze into ice sculptures. The park is open for year-round camping, and if you have a warm sleeping bag and a big campfire, it offers a Wisconsin adventure like no other. Here's what you need to know about this unforgettable winter camping adventure.
The scenic park is named after Martin Pattison, an early lumber man and miner who protected the land from a power project that would have dammed the river and destroyed the beautiful falls.
He purchased the land and donated it to the state for a park that could be enjoyed forever.
Camping at Pattison during winter means a quieter experience and a chance to enjoy the park's stunning winter landscapes.
There are 59 family campsites available. Campers can take in the cool and quiet solitude and tranquility of the season.
The park's iconic Big and Little Manitou Falls, framed by snow-dusted cliffs, create a picturesque setting for a camping adventure.
The frozen waterfalls add a touch of magic to the wintry scene.
There's a lot to do in the park, including snowshoeing, hiking, and cross-country skiing. The park's trails are beautiful, serene, and uncrowded during the winter.
The park has over seven miles of trails, and they will take you through the forest and right past the waterfalls.
While the experience is beautiful, it's also very rustic.
Winter campers use pit toilets that are open year-round. During the off-season, visitors obtain water from the contact station during open office hours.
High quality gear can make a big difference in a winter camping experience - be sure to pack plenty of warm clothes, warm boots - warm eveything!

I've had a few winter camping experiences over the years in Wisconsin - it can be a really good time if you can stay warm and dry.
