Nothing says summer in the Mountain State quite like pitching a tent in a remote forest for a weekend away from it all. And we have just the campground to add to your bucket list for the next time you plan a woodland adventure!
Tea Creek is a small stream that runs through the beautiful Monongahela National Forest in Pocahontas County, West Virginia.
The Tea Creek Area (as it's called) is a calm, peaceful, remote place characterized by wild forest, good hiking trails, and stunning mountain views.
And tucked away in one corner of the Tea Creek Area is Tea Creek Campground.
It's located right where Tea Creek joins the Williams River.
The remote campground is the perfect place to pitch a tent or park a small camper.
People in the know return year after year, and describe the place as "peaceful," "clean," "beautiful," and "relaxing."
It's a great home base for fishing, hiking, biking, floating the river, and exploring the nearby Cranberry Wilderness.
There are 28 first-come-first-served campsites (four with creek frontage) that are rentable for $10/night at the self-serve kiosk. Each campsite has a parking spur, picnic table, fire ring, grill, trashcan, and lantern hookup. The campground is equipped with outhouses.
Trailheads for Bannock Shoals Trail, Tea Creek Mountain, and Williams River are located right in the campground, with multiple other trailheads nearby.
Make sure to check out the Forks of Tea Creek Swimming Hole on the Tea Creek Trail!
The campground is located on Forest Road 86, also known as Williams River Road. To reach it from Marlinton, take the Highland Scenic Highway 9 miles to the Williams River Bridge turnoff on the left.
You can contact the Marlinton Ranger District directly at 304-799-4334 to inquire about plans to reopen the campground for the 2020 season or keep an eye on its status at the website below:
