When it comes to luxury resorts, you have your pick in Washington. Sophisticated spots like the Alderbrook Resort & Spa and the Skamania Lodge get a lot of positive press, and for good reason - they’re beautiful. But there happens to be a lesser known resort that sits right on the ocean in the Olympic Peninsula. And while it’s not as posh as some of the more well known destinations, it has all the amenities you’ll need at a fraction of the cost.
Intrigued? Book a stay at the Ocean Crest Resort in MoClips and you’ll see what we mean.
The Ocean Crest Resort was originally owned and operated by a wonderful woman named Barbara Topete. Barbara, who passed away in April, was an inspiration to many and helped transform the resort and the surrounding area. It’s still owned and operated by the Curtright family (Barbara’s former last name was Curtright), and they all work hard to make it a special place to visit.
The best part of Ocean Crest Resort (aside from those incredible water views) is the range of accommodations they have available. If you’re on a tight budget, their economy studios offer a comfortable and relaxing respite from the world. If you’re traveling with a group or just want a little more room, a Deluxe Studio or a One or Two Bedroom Unit might be a better fit. The Two Bedroom Units fit up to eight people and include a full kitchen and fireplace.
You won’t have to look far for fine dining at Ocean Crest Resort. Their onsite restaurant has been serving Northwest cuisine since the 1960s (with a brief closure for renovation a few years ago), and it has an outstanding reputation. The chef happens to be Jess Owen, the grandson of Barbara Topete. Jess is known locally as the "Culinary Madman" because of his interesting food combinations, but he also prepares plenty of classic staples, like his grandmother’s clam chowder recipe.
One essential part of a resort experience is a little pampering. Ocean Crest Resort has an indoor pool in the Recreation Center as well as a sauna, hot tub and workout room. The Cedar Serenity Spa offers massage therapy, including hot stone massage and prenatal massage.
The resort’s location can be considered the best of both worlds—not only is it oceanfront, but it’s forested as well. One thing worth mentioning: There’s no in-room WiFi here, so your room or suite will be a true escape from the world. They do have WiFi onsite, however, so you can always answer your pressing emails from the lobby.
The Ocean Crest Resort has been offering their seaside escapes to couples, families and solo travelers since 1953. They’ve been featured on the Travel Channel’s Hotel Impossible, and the host Anthony had some great advice for the family and the future of the business. If you want to stay in paradise without breaking the bank, book a stay by calling 360-276-4465.
