A truly mid-century modern aesthetic awaits at the Little Mod Hotel, one of Charlottesville's newest places to stay. The building is a freshly renovated 1960s hotel in the heart of town. It's been completely revitalized, but the retro design elements remain true. The result is a sleek, modern place to stay that will simultaneously make you feel like you've traveled back in time.
The hotel offers 15 guest rooms and five apartments to choose from, each offering its own mid-century-modern vibes. Far from your average motel, the Little Mod offers some downright luxurious amenities, ensuring that you'll have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Some of our favorite details include the Smeg mini-fridges and the colorful record players.
When you're ready to eat, you'll be delighted to discover the Mod Pod, a vintage-style Airstream trailer food truck serving tacos between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. daily. Delicious, handmade tacos are at the heart of this sleek operation, but there are plenty of other bites to choose from, such as avocado toast and even a Tex-Mex torta. For drinks, you can choose from a classic cup of coffee to an Abuelita Frappe, which includes oat milk, Abuelita cocoa, and white chocolate. Other options available are orange juice, sparkling water, and freshly made smoothies.
When you're ready to venture out, you'll agree that Charlottesville has so much to discover. From historic tours (I just experienced the James River Batteau Sunset Tour and can't recommend it enough!) to wine tasting, breweries with live music, and a plethora of natural wonders and beautiful mountain trails, you might just want to extend your stay.
Those who have had the chance to stay at the Little Mod Hotel agree that it's special. Folks love the convenience, too; it's a stone's throw away from UVA and within walking distance of the Downtown Mall. Plus, the bedding is remarkably comfortable. One thing to note is that no parking is available; however, there's a garage just a block away. By all accounts, though, the decor is what really sets this place apart, offering guests a delightfully unexpected experience.
