As the longest continuously-operated inn in the country, this accommodation has quite a storied history.
It all began in 1742, when the "Old Kitchen" was constructed as a stagecoach stop, along with a well that helped provide water to those living in Middletown.
As the years progressed, the purpose of the inn was to provide rest and entertainment to those traveling along Route 11, then known as Warrior's Road.
This name derived from the fact that Native tribes used the route to travel throughout the Shenandoah Valley.
As you explore this historic landmark today, you'll feel as though you're a visitor from a bygone era. A blend of Federal, Late Georgian, Greek Revival, and Colonial architecture is all on display for guests to appreciate. Not to mention the antiques that furnish each room.
