A cabin in the woods. It's the ideal vision of a place to get away from it all, to set aside your schedule and relax in a remote area of the state. Rural Virginia is renowned for beauty, gorgeous views, and plenty of fresh air, and the cabins here are no exception. The accommodations will make you feel right at home and the peace and quiet will remind you that you are not. It's the perfect combination. Here are some unique cabins in Virginia to provide for the perfect getaway, any time of year.
1. Lily Ridge Cabin (Whitetop)
Lily Ridge is a gorgeous timber frame cabin located on 50 acres of secluded land. With 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, the cabin comfortably accommodates up to 12 guests. Within just 10 minutes are the Virginia Creeper Trail, Grayson Highlands State Park, and the New River. The house has 3 porches for spectacular views and stargazing. The activities nearby are endless, although you might just find yourself staying in the cozy cabin all weekend.
2. Afton Log Cabin (Nelson)
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Afton Log Cabin is located between Charlottesville and Waynesboro. This charming cabin sleeps 5, with two beautiful bedrooms. Afton makes for a unique stay because of its proximity to countless wineries, breweries, trails, and scenic drives. In fact, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive are just minutes away. Guests are responsible for bringing along their own toiletries and bedding, but besides that, you'll have just about everything you need for the perfect stay.
3. Cabin at Woodridge Farm (Lovingston)
This hand-built, three story cabin was made from nearby logs. This perfect mountain getaway is part of a 300-acre farm and sits on the shore of a privately stocked rainbow trout lake fed by mountain spring water. The nearby Rock Fish River is great for other water activities, including canoeing and kayaking. The cabin includes a fire pit, pool table, and gas grill: all the ingredients for a wonderful summer vacation.
4. Kalmia Cabin (Stanley)
Kalmia is named for the scientific term for Mountain Laurel, the beautiful shrub that grows in the surrounding mountain area. The cabin itself sits atop a private mountain, 300 feet above the Shenandoah Valley. The living room has a cathedral ceiling and plenty of windows to let in the light. There's also a fireplace for nights that get a little chilly. The cabin is 2-bedroom with a pullout couch in the main space.
5. A Sweet Mountain Retreat (Sperryville)
Aptly named, A Sweet Mountain Retreat is located in northern Virginia, a beautiful introduction to the Shenandoah National Park. This cabin is made especially for couples looking for a calming and romantic getaway. From the front porch, you'll have access to the surrounding area and can hear the calming sound of the Thorton river rushing by. The cabin includes two bedrooms, a screened-in porch, a yoga/meditation loft, and more.
6. Journey Cabin (Pounding Mill)
Journey Cabin is a lovely little getaway overlooking the Clinch River. If you're looking for a completely off-the-grid spot, this is your ticket. The cabin is built from hemlock and can accommodate up to 9 guests. Each floor has its own balcony, and the second floor has a luxurious hot tub. There are plenty of accommodations here, including internet access and a wood-burning stove; however, the remote location will ensure that you have complete privacy and relaxation during your stay.

Don't be mislead by its name; the Hunting Cabin isn't exclusively for hunters. The beautiful country setting of southwestern Virginia will provide the perfect atmosphere for both relaxation and adventure, depending on which you are in the mood for. The cabin itself is located on a 200-acre farm just 15 minutes from the Martinsville Raceway. The cabin is organized into an open loft and two bedrooms.
