Bear Lake is one of the most popular getaway destinations in the Beehive State. This northern Utah lake is known for its beautiful blue waters, countless recreational activities, and excellent views. While this lake is certainly large, there is one place that draws in quite a crowd — Rendezvous Beach. This beach is not only perfect for a day with your toes in the sand but it is also home to four distinct campgrounds, creating one of the best camping spots in Utah. This area belongs on your bucket list.
Bear Lake, also known as the Caribbean of the Rockies, is the type of place where a day trip just isn’t long enough. Fortunately, there are vacation rentals and campgrounds all around where you can stay and play.
Rendezvous Beach is one of my favorite places to visit at Bear Lake. This beach is approximately two miles from Laketown and is a popular place if you want to spend a day near the water.
Keep in mind that this beach can become quite busy during the summer months. You will want to visit on a weekday and arrive early in the morning to beat the crowds.
One thing that sets Rendezvous Beach apart from other destinations is that it's home to four separate campgrounds: Willow Group, Birch, Cottonwood, and Big Creek Campgrounds.
Birch Campground is the largest of the four campgrounds. This area features 57 full hook-up campsites with power, water, and sewer. Even better, each campsite has a pavilion covering a picnic table and a fire ring to protect you from the sun on those hot summer days.
Big Creek is another large campground that’s perfect for RVs. This campground has 46 full hook-up campsites that range from 44 feet to 68 feet.
If you are sleeping in a tent, you’ll want to head to Cottonwood Campground. This is a tent-only campground with 21 individual sites and three group sites. Each of these campsites has a picnic table and fire ring.
As the name suggests, Willow Group is a campground boasting three group campsites. Each site has a pavilion and enough space for 48 individuals and 12 vehicles. There is power but no water or sewer hookups.
Despite all of the camping sites at Rendezvous Beach, we recommend you place your reservations far in advance. These camping spots are booked early, particularly on the weekends.
Also, be aware that Rendezvous Beach is seasonal and typically open from May 1 to the middle of October. You’ll want to visit the Utah State Parks website for the most up-to-date information. Also, some areas of Bear Lake, such as Rainbow Cove, North and South Eden, and Bluffs campsites are open year round.
