Looking for a lodge where you can truly get away from all the harried stresses of the modern day world, and where you can become one with nature? While remote places filled with both adventuring and pampering alike seems to be a lost art, this Wisconsin island holds a hidden place you'll never want to leave. Step back in time and see for yourself why visitors have becoming to Stout's Island Lodge for the past 150 years.
The original main lodge was built in 1903 and modeled after Adirondack camps.
The main island is connected to the east island by a steel bridge gifted by Andrew Carnegie. Current owners purchased the island in the mid-1990s, built five additional cabins on it, and established the resort in operation today.
The small island was purchased by its namesake Frank Stout in 1887.
It was originally co-owned, but Stoute became a sole owner with a $14,000 purchase of the land in 1903.
The lodge and surrounding cabins are a true retreat that is open to guests between May and October.
Clear waters, woods, and beautiful surroundings make it the perfect place to escape. The lake has pan fish, walleye, Northern, and Bass and is 45 feet deep in some locations. Fishing is good off the boathouse as well.
The boat house has a rustic upper deck area for enhanced viewing.
You can only reach the lodge by ferry.
Rooms retain a lodge flavor, and many feature private deck areas.
Room rates include a continental breakfast, scheduled ferry trips, and use of all non-motorized recreational equipment. Some cabins feature small kitchens and refrigerators.
Night-time provides idyllic times to view the stars and sit by the fire.
A full-service culinary restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
The lodge offers plenty of activities, or simply none at all, depending on your preference.
Guests can enjoy a common bonfire area, or utilize their own private fireplace (wood is provided) in many of their rooms.
The island itself, along with the east island which is accessible by a walking bridge, encompasses 18 acres. The island is located on the 1,800-acre Red Cedar Lake in Barron County, Wisconsin.
