The Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee is a beautiful homage to the days of old. Rife with historic relevance and the only building in downtown that features the Beaux-Arts style, it's a place that stands on the heart of its own story. We took a visit to the hotel, and fell in love with its gorgeous design and illustrious past.
The Historic Hermitage Hotel was built in 1908, taking its name from the famed estate that was home to Andrew Jackson. Doors were opened in mid-September 1910, and it has found its place in the heart of Music City. It was Nashville's third skyscraper, per say, and the rooms were advertised as, "fireproof, noise proof, and dust proof, rooms $2.00 and up."
The lobby was, and continues to be, one of the most stunning entrances in the whole of Tennessee. Designed in the classic Beaux-Arts style, it has come to represent an age of beauty and decadence. The hotel offered circulating ice water to all of the guest rooms when it opened, and the telephone as well as the golden Sienna Marble of the grand staircase set the entire place apart.
The hotel actually served as a part of the national platform for women's rights in 1920, when Tennessee ratified the 19th Amendment and gave women the right to vote. There have also been multiple presidential visits over the years, including that of President Taft, Wilson, Kennedy and Johnson. There were periods of time when the hotel served as a campaign headquarters due to its close location to the capitol.
Charlie Chaplin is said to have dined here, as well as Jack Dempsey. As you can see, the excellence of design and distinctive sense of style elevates the whole of the space.
The Hermitage Hotel has the honor of beings listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places in the mid-seventies, and has become a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation as well as the Historic Hotels of America.
A five-star hotel with 122 pet-friendly rooms and a four-diamond restaurant makes for a pretty unique experience, wouldn't you say? The men's bathroom has also made headlines, with its art-deco design. It has actually been named one of the most beautiful restrooms in the United States - how crazy is that?
You can see the capitol perfectly in this rooftop shot. Is there anything more beautiful than a snow-dusted Nashville? We think not.
Make a reservation at this 5-star hotel if you're looking to spend your time in Nashville in style. The hotel is located at 231 6th Ave N, right in the heart of downtown.
