There is so much to see and do in Memphis that it can be really hard to narrow it down to just a weekend. Lucky for you, that’s where we come in! As local travel experts, we do our best to bring you great ideas to inspire your trip. So whether you are planning on finding some of the best places to stay within Tennessee or you are looking to explore the city, we have plenty of options. For today, we wanted to take you to a lovely vacation home rental in Cooper-Young, Memphis, as your base of operations for some outdoor fun in the city.
Book yourself this rental house as a base of operation in the lovely neighborhood of Cooper-Young for a home base for a wonderful weekend in Memphis.
Not only is this one of the most walkable areas of the city, it's also centrally located to many great attractions... more on that later. This rental comes with two bedrooms and can comfortably sleep up to four people. The home is bursting with Memphis charm; in fact, you can almost see a little bit of Graceland vibes with chandlers in the bathroom and classic Southern furnishings. Little touches all around the house remind you that you are indeed in Memphis and there is even a backyard so you can bring along your dog and have a nice safe place for him to run and play.
In fact, if you just love being outside, then there is a nearby park you simply must visit.
Shelby Farms Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country and is filled with hours of outdoor fun. Enjoy the scenic water, take a walk around the park, or play a round of disc golf. For something truly unique make sure you check out the buffalo herd in the park -- that's right, you “herd” me! There is a bunch of buffalo just hanging out in the park. It’s certainly not something you see every day here in Tennessee, and well-worth the visit next time you're in Memphis.
After a day in the sun, you might come back to your rental house ready to relax for the evening.
You’ll have your choice of bedrooms and both of them come with a king-sized bed so you should have plenty of room to get cozy for the night. Make sure you take some time to explore the house and pay attention to all the little details that go into making this such a great place to stay.
In the morning the next day, head back out into town and make your way to one of the best zoos in the state.
The Memphis Zoo is home to a plethora of exotic and exciting animals. Enjoy watching lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) as well as aquatic creatures and the ever-fun primates. You can easily spend the day at this fantastic zoo.
Of course, you can’t go to Memphis and not partake in some of the best BBQs in the country.
Just down the street from the zoo, you can visit The Bar-B-Q Shop for what many consider the best barbeque in the city. Not only can you partake in your standard fare when it comes to smoked meats you can also try a very one-of-a-kind dish. BBQ spaghetti is a unique creation from this famous restaurant and makes for a delicious combination. Before you leave make sure to purchase your own bottle of their famous rub to try your hand at your own BBQ-ing.
At the end of the day, you can once again return to your lovely porch paradise. In classic Tennessee style, finish off the day by rocking in the rocking chairs and listening to the crickets settle in and the hum of city life all around you.
When you are looking to explore Memphis, there's no shortage cool places to explore... this itinerary is just the beginning!
