When it comes to all the amazing places to see and things to do in beautiful South Dakota, it can seem kind of overwhelming to just pick something and go do it. Well, that's where I come in: Why not check out the totally awesome historic town of Deadwood, South Dakota, and focus a weekend (or more) there? I strongly recommend it, especially to anyone who's never been here before. I've even gone ahead and found you one of the best places to stay, too - it's a rustic little vacation home rental in Deadwood, South Dakota that you're sure to love. Check it all out and plan your getaway ASAP! Deadwood is calling...
First and foremost, historic old-town Deadwood is an awesome day trip destination, too, but in this case, let's plan for something a little longer.
Nevertheless, no trip to Deadwood would ever be complete without first exploring this historic old town. This awesome historic town in South Dakota is sure to fascinate anyone with even a passing interest in history.
One of the must-see attractions in old Deadwood is the Adams House, a gorgeous Queen Anne home built in 1892.
Fun fact: this house once sold for one whole dollar back in 1905. What a time to be alive.
Explore the house, do a tour, learn all about the history of the home and the area... it's a great go-to option if you're unsure of what to do once you're finished exploring old town.
Now, obviously, you're gonna need a place to rest your head, right? No problem: I found the perfect place.
The Depot is an awesome little apartment vacation rental smack-dab in the middle of Deadwood.
It's a combination of both rustic and modern amenities, and it's a delightful place to call your new home away from home.
It's very highly rated and recommended, with a 4.6 out of 5 rating on VRBO. It's a small place, making it absolutely perfect for a couples' escape or a solo outing. As relatively affordable as this rental is, you'll get the best deal by booking well in advance.
But either way, sleep well - tomorrow, there's more to see.
Early the next morning, you ought to embark upon the awesome George S. Mickelson Trail, one of the best hikes in Deadwood.
It's not hard to see why this is one of the best hikes in South Dakota. It's an incredible powerhouse of a hike, coming in at an unreal 118 miles in length. It goes right through the Black Hills, too, which only contributes to its awesome beauty. If you're a backpacker, this one's a must-do in its entirety. Of course, though, you can always only do bits and pieces (particularly the one that goes right through Deadwood). Your adventure is entirely up to you.
Finally, I've got to hand it to the Mt. Roosevelt Monument, which is another fascinating must-see for anyone new to the area.
Lovers of history will like this one; it's a historic masterpiece that's also known as - get this - the Friendship Tower. It's a delight through and through, I promise.
Ultimately, Deadwood is an awesome town perfect for a weekend, a week, or longer. You might even want to live here someday (I don't blame you). Lovers of day trips in South Dakota, rejoice - this state is perfect for doing exactly that. And what about that awesome vacation home rental in South Dakota? Let's go!
