Everyone's talking about South Carolina. Okay, maybe not everyone, but with the state being at the tip top of the list of states people are moving into as well as being a top choice among Only In Your State readers for where in the United States to travel in 2024, South Carolina is certainly on the minds of many. If you've never visited South Carolina before, maybe it's time to plan a road trip to find out for yourself what all the fuss is about! You'll have many options for delicious dining, fun attractions, incredible places to stay, and more no matter which area of the state you decide to visit. The upstate area has been gaining popularity in recent years, offering gorgeous mountain scenery, waterfall hikes, and much more, including one of the most unique places to stay in South Carolina. Staying at this spot alone makes for an unforgettable experience.
Imagine arriving at the end of your drive and pulling up to this breathtaking scene. Your one-of-a-kind accommodation is a tipi rental located in a secluded haven along the Chauga River in scenic Oconee County, known for the seemingly endless number of waterfalls to explore.
One of the unique features of the tipi is its name, Adawehi, which means the spirit of healing in the Cherokee language. Oconee County was originally home to Native Americans, with the Cherokees the last tribe to inhabit the area.
Oconee County was named from a Cherokee word meaning land beside the water. What an incredible spot to unplug and truly reconnect with nature, which seems more and more of a rare experience these days.
Three adults and two children can sleep in the tipi comfortably, and it's pet-friendly!
Or just sit back and relax on one of the deck areas. Sometimes, we just need to be still with our bodies and our minds!
You'll have beautiful views of the Chauga River, which is perfect for swimming, tubing, or fishing.
Enjoy a warm fire in the evening, especially during cooler times of the year.
You'll feel a million miles away from everything here!
And in fact, it is such a remote spot that four wheel drive vehicles are necessary for access. Any guests without four wheel drive vehicles may park up top and take a short steep hike in (be sure to wear tennis shoes), or the host will shuttle you to the location at the beginning and end of your stay. Be sure to notify the host of this need when booking.
The tipi is both heat and air-conditioned, and there is a mini-fridge, a coffee pot, outdoor cooking essentials, pots, and dishware. However, if you'd like to venture out into the Westminster community for a meal or two, check out Brasstown Creek Gathering Place BBQ in Westminster!
