Most people don't know there is a campground in South Carolina that is larger than nine of our small towns. But it's true, and not only is this campground literally the size of a small town, it also has a mile of sandy beach on the Atlantic.

For starters, every site is only steps from the ocean.
In addition, every site has electric hookups, water, its own sewer hookup, free wifi, and, so you don't have to miss a single episode of "America's Got Talent," every site comes with a 63-channel cable hookup.
But with all there is to see and do, that television won't likely be on during the day.
The campground has several pools, including a new 500+ foot lazy river. (Not many small towns in South Carolina can say they have one of those!) It also has an olympic-size pool, plus a number of water slides, and a fun splash pad round out the non-beach water activities.
Craving ice cream? You'll find that here too, which comes as no surprise.
The campground has two eateries that'll help to fill your tank when you've run out of steam. Want a pizza delivered? They'll bring it right to your campsite via golf cart from their Meet N' Eat Cafe!

Or, if you're out on the beach and get hungry, this small town, er... huge campground, has its own beachfront cafe.
The Sandy Cafe is located beachside and is sure to have something to quieten your growling tummy so you can get back to the business of relaxing on the beach.

Ocean Lakes has a camp store the likes of which we promise you've never seen. Most camp stores have a few items scattered around a small shared space with the check-in counter. But not this campground. The camp store is 12,000 square feet and has everything from groceries to hardware, toiletries, souvenirs and gifts.
Most campgrounds organize activities throughout the year — as do small towns.
But we promise, you will not find a Fourth of July parade anywhere quite like the one at Ocean Lakes. The annual event gets camping families inspired to create the best golf cart floats you've ever seen. If you don't have a golf cart then you can rent one at Ocean Lakes. Just want to watch? Pull a chair out to where you campsite meets the road.

Camping in South Carolina is one of our favorite pastimes, and thanks to moderate winters, it's an activity we can enjoy the whole year through. For waterfront camping in a breathtaking state park setting, we recommend a trip to Cheraw State Park. The oldest park in the entire South Carolina state park system, it's worth a visit for its history and scope alone. Yet it's the lakefront setting, countless adventures, and beautiful campground that will surely inspire your return visits.

Cheraw State Park is tucked away in Chesterfield County in the Midlands region of South Carolina, not too far from the North Carolina border. The park was established in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

Today, it's famous for its golf course, which has been voted among the "Best Places to Play" by Golf Digest. But the crown jewel of the park is Lake Juniper, a 360-acre lake that's best explored by kayak or canoe. Those looking for an especially unforgettable outing should sign up for the moonlit canoe float that happens during the summer and fall!
Cheraw is also popular among hikers, with several trails to choose from. The Lake Juniper Boardwalk Trail is a favorite, measuring just 1.2 miles and showcasing the lake's beauty on an easy route.
If you have time to explore the park, we recommend spending at least a couple of nights at the Cheraw State Park Campground. There are 17 sites to choose from, six of which are lakefront. Each campsite is packed with gravel and also offers water and electrical hookups. As for amenities, you'll find restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station for RVs.

Reviewers note that the campsites are clean, well-maintained, and offer beautiful views of the park. Plus, the park offers fishing equipment to use for free! For those who prefer to stay indoors, there are nine cabins available for rent. Each of the cabins is equipped with bed and bath linens, a TV, wi-fi, cooking utensils, a coffee maker, and a screened porch. Reservations to camp at this park are required.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
