Camping in South Carolina with children? You'd be remiss to pass up a weekend (or longer!) at the amazing Mount Pleasant / Charleston Holiday KOA Campground. Located on the undeveloped shore of a small lake, this hidden gem doles out plenty of things for the kids to love as well as reasons Mom and Dad adore the spot, too.
In the decades since this KOA opened off of Highway 17 on the north side of Mount Pleasant, the entire town has grown up around the property.
But sitting in your tent, your camper, one of the cabin rentals, or even the caboose rental, you'd never know. You'd never even know sitting on a bench under a shady tree that only a few hundred yards away is the ever-so-busy Highway 17, always filled with traffic and jams and other chaos.
Inside the little KOA... there's no chaos. Only pure magic for a camping experience you'll cherish for a lifetime.
Bring the kids and launch a weekend filled with relaxation, reconnecting with the outdoors, pit fires, wienie roasting, s'mores making, burgers, laughter, and fun.
In warm weather months, the pool is a nice respite from the hot temps of summer.
A 1.5-mile nature trail affords a chance to explore the woodsy side of the property.
Lace up the hiking boots and go check it out. Wildflowers, wildlife, and more abound.
For the littles in the family, a fun-centric playground with safe, clean equipment is the perfect place to meet up with new friends and to wind down before dinner and bed.
And over on the lake the inflatable bike rentals are a must.
Pedal your way around the lake with these new aquacycles that are brand new for 2021. You can also rent canoes and fish for your dinner from the canoe or the shore.
In terms of where to sleep: bring a tent, bring your own camper or RV, or...
Rent a lakeside cabin.
The small lakeside cabins are primitive and come with beds and a small indoor table.
You'll need to bring your own linens. Outside, each cabin has its own fire ring and picnic table.
Want a cabin that's less rustic? Rent a deluxe cabin with a few more amenities including a kitchenette.
A larger option is the Family Lodge.
Or, check into the most unique lodging in the park: a train caboose!
Perched right on the edge of the lake, it's a fabulous way to turn a camping trip into a glamping trip you're sure to remember.
If you've yet to discover the peaceful and magical KOA campground in Mount Pleasant, then now is good time to go check it out!
