Thunder shook us out of our cots as rain pounded our tent. We held our flashlights up to our faces and worried a tornado would sweep us away. We were just grade schoolers experiencing a normal summer thunderstorm, but it was pretty scary back then. That was my introduction to camping, and I've loved it ever since. Sleeping in a tent, even on a cot, isn't for all of us, though, but that doesn't mean we have to miss out. This remote campground in Cedar Run, Pennsylvania is proof of that.
Nestled in the Pennsylvania Wilds, Pettecote Junction Campground in Cedar Run promises plenty of quiet, breathtaking natural beauty, and things to do.
The family-friendly campground also allows pets.
Don't worry if you're not into traditional tent camping. This family and pet-friendly campground has something for everyone. However, if you do prefer an old-school adventure, pitch a tent.
Tent sites allow up to two tents and eight guests. The creekside sites are the real deal. There are no hook-ups and a two-night minimum stay is required.
Or park your RV for a cozy camping adventure. RV sites require a two-night minimum stay, and there are ADA-accessible sites.
Pettecoat Junction also offers many of the comforts of home with its cabin rentals. Each cabin sleeps up to six and sits near the famous Pine Creek Rail Trail.
Your biggest challenge when planning your visit is choosing where to stay. How about one of the glamping tents that promise an old-school camping experience without giving up such amenities as a cozy bed, a lamp, and a table with chairs?
Don't forget to pack your hiking shoes. This remote campground in Pennsylvania makes it easy to explore some of the 62-mile Pine Creek Rail Trail.
Consider the four-person glamping pods, too, that feature A/C and comfy beds.
For a truly unique experience, though, climb aboard the authentic caboose. The four-person rental has a living area, full bathroom, and kitchen.
Whether you want to relax at the campground or explore a little bit beyond its borders, you'll find a ton to do. The campground offers such amenities as basketball, volleyball, cornhole, and a playground for the kiddos.
Carve out some time, too, to visit Pine Creek Gorge (the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania). You can view the natural wonder from Colton Point State Park or Leonard Harrison State Park, less than an hour from the campground.
