Sometimes, you just need to press "pause" on life. Unplug from the modern world for a bit, and enjoy a getaway sans iPhones and Zoom calls. In Oregon, there are many places to go for a digital detox; beautiful, charming, off-the-grid accommodations where you can fully unplug and unwind. Here are a few of our favorite places to go when life gets a bit too noisy. Some accommodations are more rustic than others, but they all share one thing in common: they are beautiful, wondrous, dreamy places where you can experience true R&R.
The Magical Treehouse - Cave Junction
Located on 20 acres at the base of Mt. Hood, this treehouse is nestled on a secluded acre near spring-fed pond that's a beautiful spot for loafing about and taking in the scenery. Paddle around the pond on a kayak, or cruise down the zip line right into the water! Nearby hiking trails provide more recreation, and you can also swim, play some hoops, and bird-watch... you know, good, old-fashioned, screen-free recreation. There is no Internet service here, but we promise, you won't miss it!
Breitenbush Hot Springs - Detroit
With its healing waters and sublime scenery, Breitenbush Hot Springs is an off-the-grid hot springs retreat that’s sure to heal you from the inside out. But don't mistake "off-the-grid" for anything less than pure rustic luxury. In addition to daytime soaks, guests can book a personal retreat at Breitenbush. Sign us up!
Rustic A-Frame - Baker City
Rustic A-Frame is just 20 minutes from Baker City, but feels a world away from everything. It's located in the foothills of the majestic Elkhorn Mountains, one of the most naturally beautiful -- and underrated -- regions of Oregon. This charming, red, 900-square-foot cabin feels like an escape from the world; there is no running water (the owners provide water for guests) and no Internet, either. But trust us when we say that you won't miss either of these modern-day amenities!
Dome Sweet Dome - Bend
Have you ever spent the night in a dome? This geodesic dome Airbnb is one of the most unique glamping experiences in Oregon -- or anywhere else! This luxury dome home has it all: two bedrooms, a full bathroom, a kitchenette with a full-sized fridge, well-appointed bedroom and bathroom, and a "floating" second floor that puts guests right *in* the treetops.
Off The Grid Fire Tower - Umpqua National Forest
Presiding over its expansive Oregon kingdom, the Off The Grid Fire Tower is a stunning Airbnb that's truly bucket-list worthy. The property is located on 160 acres of private land; a kingdom for guests to explore. The platform is 40 feet high and accessed via four flights of stairs -- and it's worth each and every step. This beautiful Airbnb is as remote -- and resplendent -- as it gets!
Westfir Lodge - Westfir
Nestled in the Cascades Mountain Range in the heart of the Willamette National Forest, Westfir Lodge is a perfect piece of Oregon paradise. The Westfir Lodge is a 'retreat' in every sense of the word: a cozy B&B, delicious farm-to-table restaurant, quiet yoga studio, and sublime space for screen-free recreation.
Cedar Bloom Farm - Cave Junction
Located in Oregon's resplendent Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, you'll find a campground that's almost too beautiful to be real. With its own beach on the banks of the Illinois River, Cedar Bloom Farm is an Oregon oasis. Cedar Bloom isn't just located in one of the most extraordinary, unexplored areas in the state, it's also home to some truly incredible camping accommodations. While Internet and WiFi are available, you won't want to bother with technology while you're here. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, you'll want to forgo iPhones and Instagram in favor of long walks, refreshing swims, and perhaps some forest bathing!
Oregon State Parks Campgrounds
One of the best things about living in the Beaver State is that we can enjoy amazing outdoor recreation all year round. This certainly applies to camping, too, as many of the state parks in Oregon are open to visit -- and camp -- even in the coldest months of the year, ensuring that you'll always have a place to go for a quiet retreat in nature. Here are some of our favorite Oregon State Parks for unplugged fun and recreation!
