There's something about camping next to a lake that takes the outdoor experience to a whole new level. It's located on the shores of Quanah Parker Lake, a hidden gem in this majestic area.
Quanah Parker Lake is located inside the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Indiahoma in southern Oklahoma. The lake is small with only three miles of shoreline, but it's also one of the most breathtaking places to visit.
You can even bring the hammocks along and hang them between the thousands of trees in the area. The campsites are wooded and come with picnic tables, fire pits, and grills.
Visitors are allowed to fish in Quanah Parker Lake, and hand-powered boats and some electric boats are also allowed. Be sure and check the official rules before towing the boat along.
You'll also find plenty of hiking trails in the wildlife refuge for all skill levels. In fact, this area is known for some of the best hiking in the state.
Get ready to see some amazing wildlife during your camping trip. The refuge is a habitat for native bison, Rocky Mountain elk, white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and more.
The Wichita Mountains have a variety of hiking trails that are absolutely breathtaking. There is a 1.5-mile trail that will take you past beautiful waterfalls and scenic views that are some of the most coveted in all of Oklahoma. Plus, it's great for all skill levels.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Diamondhead Resort tubing and camping? Yes, please! When Oklahoma weather becomes warm, it becomes the perfect time for a tubing adventure down the Illinois River in northeastern Oklahoma. There's a river campground located right next to the water where you can pitch a tent; rent a cabin, and jump on a tube to float down the river. So if you want to visit one of the best rivers to float, head over to this awesome Diamondhead Resort in Oklahoma.

Diamondhead Resort is located on the Illinois River in Tahlequah at 12081 North Highway 10. You can pitch a tent in the campground or rent a room at their motel, bunkhouse, or cabin.
You can set up camp right next to the Illinois River and enjoy the beautiful sounds of rushing water. They also have the perfect setup for RVs and campers with full hookups. This is one of the best places for Illinois River camping.
One of coolest the attractions at the resort is the 6-mile or 12-mile float trip adventure. Tahlequah River floating is so much fun; you have to try it!
Diamondhead Resort will transport you to the desired launching point, based on the length of the trip, and you can rent everything you need from them. Rentals include four-man or six-man rafts, canoes, or kayaks.
There's nothing more relaxing than spending a day out on the river floating for hours and hours. If you're worried about the crowds, we recommend floating during the week, as the weekends can get very crowded.
Camping next to the Illinois River at Diamondhead Resort is an annual tradition for many families. If you've never experienced this fun adventure, reserve a spot before it gets all booked up.
The resort is also home to Gravel Bar and Grill - the only full-service bar on the Illinois River. They are generally open on Friday and Saturday nights and serve breakfast on the weekends. It doesn't get better than this lazy river campground in Oklahoma!
On top of all this, the Diamondhead Resort in Oklahoma also has a General Store, a 9-hole disc golf course, a game room, two lighted volleyball courts, three horseshoe pits, and a lighted basketball court.
